Basic 2D Tracking in After Effects

Postby hype on Mon Jan 08, 2007 1:14 am

here you go, a tracking tutorial I made for bzudo to help him out.

Just basic 2D tracking, using four tracks and averaging them together.

Makes use of this great script, which no AE user should be without:
http://www.aenhancers.com/viewtopic.php?t=136

here's an example of the finished track

http://www.mackdadd.com/tutorials/coke_ ... xample.mov (1.05 Mb)

and the tutorial

http://www.mackdadd.com/tutorials/coke_ ... torial.mov (156 Mb)

thanks bzudo for letting me use your footage! This was made with a specific question of his in mind, so it may not cover every single thing about tracking, just some specific things we were discussing.

thanks for watching,
if you have any questions, this is the place to ask! :dance:

Not anything you haven't covered in other tutorials you've made, but a great starter tutorial to get people off on the right foot

I wrote a bit of code after watching Hypes tutorials. Nothing fancy, just a simple "if statement. And it goes like this.

Code: Select all

{
global proc = "Hype"
global proc = "life"

if "Hype" == total friggin animal
then "life" == true.
}

:D "you're an inspiration to us all rusty"

:dance: "boy I'll say, i'm going to start a paper route right now!"

hahaha... you guys are nuts! (in a good way!)

its strange... to me, this AE stuff is super easy. but last night i tried that object pinning Tyson was talking about for Max, and its the same thing - he makes it sound so easy, and i'm just perplexed! I mean, i got it to work, but it drifted and i didn't know how to fix it, it only works in a certain viewport... i couldn't see how it could easily be used in a production shot.

maybe for my next tracking tutorial i'll deal with what to do when the feature you're tracking goes out of frame and comes back in (or doesn't come back at all!). the AE tracker has some pretty cool little features that are dependant on where you click on the tracker box (i know, sounds strange, but its true), and its really good, helpful information.

I'm going to copy that code you wrote Z, a great script! I've been playing around with some BASIC on my old Amstrad and came up with this little number

Code: Select all
10 REM Happy Hype script
20  run "Z's awesome script"
30 goto 20

I hope to be going through these tuts of yours Hype. I gots me some work comming and this may prove very useful indeed! :)

This tutorial is a bit outdated now. That track averaging script is a bit clunky to use. I would reccommend using TrackerViz instead now. It's SO much easier and straightforward.

What program do you make to create kingdom hearts animation? Like I said, how do you make kingdom hearts animation? And by animation i mean the animation in like.....the opening, not the little movies in between the playing parts. I want to know how to create that kind of animation and what software is used!
