Cigarette Smoke In Afterburn

ALi 608 posts09 Jul 2006Hey mates, I'm using Afterburn to make cigarette smoke for my entrie in contest. Who can tell me what's a good way to do so? Any help would be appreciated.

10 Jul 2006theres a tutorial that comes with afterburn demonstrating that very thing.

10 Jul 2006as a tip... i would not use afterburn to make cigarette smoke, especialy if its for the challenge.. we care more about your animation that your cigarette smoke... anyway thats my point of view.

10 Jul 2006one thing. afterburn doesn't magicaly make really good looking stuff, it just adds smoke puffs to your particles, so before you get started with your afterburn work, have you got your particle system already or do you need help with that too... (there is a tut about cig smoke in the tutorials that comes with max i think and there are quite a few on the web. pete draper also have one in his book (a really good book) then with afterburn, watch the vids that comes with it and then its just a matter of messing around) anyway, good night

ALi 608 posts10 Jul 2006I knew that Afterburn don't do so. I just want to change the parameters to get a good result.
And the tutorial, I have noticed that tutorial before. but I didn't read (lazy ALi
). I think it's time to read that. Also will read Afterburn tutorial, too. but not now. It's very late. should go sleep. will read them tomorrow.

11 Jul 2006i also have to push pete draper's book on this one - i LOVE his cig smoke tut! i used a variation of it "The Benchwarmers" (had to modify it alot because of how fast the cig moves in the movie).

11 Jul 2006i did. not one of my better resume fillers, but the sillier the movie, the more 3d i get to do, and i got LOTS in there!

go to "gallery", then "deconstructing the elements" and you can see samples from i think everything in the book. in my opinion, this could be the best 3dsMax book ever written.
at least until Tyson does one.
