chaosaura is damn good... i heard rumors a new chaosaura will come out soone, any of you guys heard that? aferburn is more for smoke than anything else...
dont get me wrong, i did not say it loked bad. i really think that looks briliant... just immagin the render times for that, if they are as long as the afterburn one, lol, we are so doomed

i can't find anything on aura, except that it hasn't been available for 2 years. where is it?

WOW
Thats exactly what I've been looking for. It looks like a mixture of afterburn and aura.
(hype, aura's at:
http://www.chaosgroup.com/software/aura/)
Holy Moly I cant wait for that. It looks like they've done what I've been hoping. Get rid of the major limit on afterburn which is the puff business.
I've tried many times to try and incorporate afterburn explode daemon, or even just the raytraced noise shadows into the metaball calculations but failed miserably. This looks like a new hope
A real fluid simulator for max for one thing is unbelievably outstanding, but having it created by sitni sati, and with smoke + fire in mind. Thats just bliss! Cant wait!

so how do you get it - you have to email them and ask for it? do they give it to just anyone, or do you have to be someone doing real projects with it or what?

They had an open alpha testing back when it was still being worked on.
You could just download it. But they've revoked all those licenses and I think its been completely shut down. I've heard nothing from it in well over a year.
As for what they showed in the FumeFX gallery. You got to think like their actualy site image gallery is pretty shithouse compared to what can be done with their software.

there's nowhere to download it from on their site. it says to email them, its in closed beta testing. plus, there hasn't been an update to that page in 2 years. that's why i was kind of writing it off.
i was pretty impressed with that stuff in the FumeFX gallery, and I can only imagine how cool it'll be when some people (cough, cough, tyson, cogh cough...) get ahold of it! i've been wanting something like Maya fluids for a long time. just being able to do smoke quickly and easily will be amazing.

I saw better flames done with Glu3d. But the smoke is impressive.
On the other hand the examples Hype posted are awesome.

as far as quality goes it looks almost identical to aura. those calculations on the anims they have on the site must've taken days though, aura is capable of such detail but it takes a significantly powerful computer and a large amount of calculation time.
-
Cameron 2,374 posts
Thats what i'm hoping, that instead of it taking ages, it could be a quick yet detailed fluid simulation aimed towards smoke + fire.
-
BColbourn 2,323 posts
i wouldnt get your hopes up, those anims look incredibly detailed though.
