Reactor real-time question

18 Aug 2006here's something i never understood...
so you set up a bunch of boxes for a reactor simulation. Say you have two boxes sitting on a ground plane, and one above them that will fall when you run the sim. so you preview it in the real-time window thingy, but then you right click one of the boxes and start throwing it around.
How do you get that interactive animation saved to keyframes? if you throw it around, then just hit calculate, it'll run it how it's set up, so the box will just fall. how do you save out the animation you make when you're right clicking and real-time dragging around? anyone know? -
18 Aug 2006i have always wanted to do that as well, i am not shure it is possible though... i would be very interseted to know how you could do that if it is possible

18 Aug 2006that kinda sucks. remember that training video when Max 6 first came out, that showed a three walled room filled with crates, and the guy made a real quick biped and "ragdoll"ed it with the included script, then threw the guy all around the room? other than being an expensive toy, what good is being able to right click and drag your objects around then?
i mean, i agree with you, i don't think it's possible either. but i've wondered for a couple years now just what good is that other than having fun.
oh well...

18 Aug 2006Well I think it's a good, quick representation of whether or not you set up your mass/friction (etc) values correctly.
If they look good in that video-game style preview window, they'll probably look good in you calculations too. -
18 Aug 2006oh, don't get me wrong, i love the real time window! that's not what i can't figure out. its the right-click-and-throw-your-boxes-around that i don't get. i mean, it's neat and fun, but if you interactively throw a box across the room, there's no way to get those keyframes out.
unless you're saying by throwing the box interactively you can see if it looks like it weighs what it's supposed to.
but if you through a stuntguy into a pile of boxes interactively and get this super cool crash as he topples them all, then there's no way to "capture" that motion you just interactively made, what's the point? (besides fun - and it is fun!). you have to rig him to some moving dummy object and have it release at the right time, and then hope you get something close to what you could interactively. -
Craig 63 posts18 Aug 2006i guess if you got a good result with throwing the guy, you could always keyframe the start of the guy being thrown upwards, in a similar motion then let reactor do the rest and get the crash into the boxes, and if it didnt get a cool crash just adjust the position of the guy before reactor takes over, if you get what i mean
