VERY impressive gallery, and they claim to get renders like this with NO render settings, just hit "render". if this is true, it's like someone's finally made an actual "make perfect" button! (well, ok, i'm exaggerrating...).
anyway, it's free. i'll be trying it.

maxwell is good for a no-render-settings thing.

it's great. but actually not free!
just hit render. all is great. except that a big BUSYRAY title is placed on the rendered image.
sure, it's they right to protect their software. but not to call it free. (words like demo would be better)

oh, really? bummer! you mean where it says "free version" it should say "watermarked demo version"?
hmmm.. i'm still gonna try it out, hopefully this weekend. $50 isn't much for a renderer, but i'll definitely try the demo first.

when maxwell was in beta it was free, and very easy to use. i think it was an overall 3 clicks to set the render up entirely hehe

dude maxwell is by no means a serious renderer.
There is no point, sure they pump some friggin realistic renders but the timeframe is in no way realistic. I havent heard of a decent render under 10 hours. Even with a farm, a crack team of scientists and a brass door knob, there's absolutely no way it can be feasible in proper cg work. In that line you'd have no way of knowing how ur render is going to look without waiting hours and hours to test each different setting. quality is best i've seen but apart from that its the worst render engine around. imo, and unless they've changed things.

Guess you missed out on the press release this morning cam.
Maxwell now renders any scene in under 12 seconds, and also automatically re-stocks your pantry as well.
Personally, I didn't care for the bacon and beans....but I guess they're still better than Aunt Magdalene's infamous possum innerds stew.

apparently maxwell is now being heavily used by architecture firms for concepts and such.
