Hi.
[engage rant mode]
I was trying to open an old file of mine (from back in the Max 5 days) and I already knew that obviously all map paths were still linked to something like C:\3D Max 5\bla blala\maps, whatever. And thus I couldn't render it to see what it looked like.
So what does one do in that case? One opens the bitmap/photometric paths editor (Utilities > More...). But as I had already discovered every single time I did this before: that thing is slow. And with slow, I mean, slower than an 90 year old granny trying to figure out where the any key is. If you have only one map missing then it works sort of okay, but I had like 40 maps missing and it takes literally 5 minutes at 100% CPU load to LOAD UP THE FUCKING DIALOG. Then you actually have to change the paths and you can't change them all at the same time, because they were scattered over 6, well organized, directories. So it's only posssible to change 5-10 files at a time and guess what? IT TAKES 5 MINUTES TO LOAD THE FUCKING DIALOG AGAIN AFTER I CHANGE THE PATHS.
[disengage rant mode]
Aaaaanyways, apart from the question whether anyone has any valium for me: does anyone know how to not let it update the dialog when you want to change some paths for some files? I just do NOT want it to check anything, do anything, apart from letting me change the paths. I have this eery feeling it's checking my computer and the whole internet to look for the files while it's loading the dialog. Otherwise I don't get why the **** it takes so long. THEY ARE JUST ONE DIRECTORY OR TWEO DIRECTORIES DOWN FROM THE MAX FILE, STUPID ***** * *** ***** (enter fancy curse words there).

the bitmap/photo path editor is slow. but quite handy, just take the paths that match and link them to the new paths, so like step by step.
you should be able to work around the problem by adding the path to the files in the customize -> configure user paths.
Then hopefull max kan find the maps there. but it does change the mapPath in material editor, so you need to submit maps if you gonna netrender.
use to work for me.
/cheers
