Jonathan 480 posts01 Apr 2007I know we have a "help hints" thread already, but not a dedicated shortcut key thread, as far as I know.
Can we perhaps compile a useful list of shortcuts for Max? I'm trying to lean as many as possible, so this may prove helpful to many.
So I'll start listing some,
Z: focus on selected object (F in Maya)
P, F, T, L, C: switch various views (Perspective, Front, Tall, Left, Camera 1)
Ctrl-Z: Undo previous command
Ctrl-Y: Redo previous command
J: Displays that little box around the object (not sure of the term)
Q: Switches the selection type (box, circle, line, etc.)
O: adaptive degredation
So feel free to add more or correct the above.

quinn paynter 356 posts01 Apr 2007If you go into max you can just go to your tool bar up top and choose the shortcut list. It will show ALL of shortcuts in max, easily. -

02 Apr 2007where is it ? I cant find it in max 8, I looked in tools and it's not there?
Please tell me where ?..........(edit) ahh found it !
under hotkey map in the help menu, but it dont give you these two
Alt + middle button and move = rotate around selected
Alt Gr + middle button and move = zoom (in out) selected
maybe its just my logitech trackball that does this but if it's not,
it saves you thousands of clicks -
02 Apr 2007hehe bob - you should know all of the viewport shortcuts otherwise you cant work... fast that is
MMB = Pan
Ctrl+MMB = fast Pan
alt+MMB = rotate
ctrl+alt+MMB = zoom
shift+alt+MMB = rotate locked x or y axie

30 Apr 2007There isn't one...but you can set one manually. I currently have it set to 'r' (...garsh!).

TheOnlyAaron 188 posts01 May 2007On thing that I've been doing with my shortcuts is adding ones for edge loop, edge ring, connect, and collapse.
Utilizing edge loops and rings make your work flow soar, and as soon as you add hot-keys to control them you will be even faster. It has gotten to the point that if I am working somewhere they aren't set up, I'll do that quick before i keep working
