hi guys,
im using vray 1.5 i guess with max 9
im trying to use zDepth vray element in a short flyby camera animation.
The camera just travel forward an object and i want to keep the focus on it but zDepth settings does not accept keyframes.
So, how can I use the zDepth the same way i should use the camera DOF settings to get a dynamic focus animation?
I really want to use postProduction DOF to keep down the render time.
Maybe you can point me in other direction than vray to solve this problem.
if you want i can upload some footage to explain what i want
thnx in advance

You have two options.
Frischluft's DOF plugin for after effects lets you keyframe the value of the z depth for depth of field.
Or you can render 'physical' DOF straight out of 3D. Use your vray camera settings, or use the standard max camera. Both have DOF available.

hi TheOnlyAaron,
i know about the "physical" DOF from max and vray but im looking a nice and fast postPro zDepth solution.
im not having any kind of problem using zDepth for stills but in my animation a camera flys and get closer to an object and because i cant animate the near and far values from the vray zDepth render element i cant control the resulting zDepth secuence.
I want to get a macro focus in the latest frames of the animation... so if I set up the near and far settings for those frames i will get a full black screen in the first segment of the animation. Do you get what i mean?
tomorrow ill post the zDepth secuence so you can see what i mean.
Im sure im missing the good way the zDepth is ment to be used during large traveling animations.
tnx,
