The can top is not attached to the can, when I attach it the top gets all screwy with because the can is meshsmoothed, I linked and grouped them and they stay attached that way but when I add a strech modifier it does not animate with the rest of the can until it is back to its normal size.
How can I keep the objects together?

a) Add an edit mesh modifier to the top of the stack of the can (above the meshsmooth), and attach the lid there
or
b) Group/Link the objects and apply a stretch modifier to both of them (ie....select them both and then add the modifier

In case you havent already figured it out I am a novice... I am attempting to create a redbull commercial with special fx lighting and everything.
What about lighting what is the perfect lighting setup( thats not just a (skylight)

Well you probably want some kinda of studio/sweet setup.
I'd suggest trying to light your scene similar to this:

Only without such a narrow depth of field and hopefully a little brighter. But basically, you want a nice rim light complemented by some fill lights and preferably a reflective floor.
