Render separate pieces with alpha

Daniel 103 posts01 Jan 2009Hi guys! I have a silly question . How can I render separate pieces for composite lately in photoshop (for example). I make an example so I can explain better
In my last scene I have this windows to render
How it's made : there is a simple panel that is the glass and the "box" with the holes.
If I want to render only the glass, using the "isolation mode" (or hiding all the remains objects) I can render it. But then, I must mask one glass per time and it's not so good the result
So, is there a mode to render only the glass (or another object of the scene) with the alpha channel when the object it's not visible? (only the part of the object that are visible)

This is hand made I try to put the glass in one layer and render only this but I obtian the same result to hide all the remain object. I hope you have understand my english!

01 Jan 2009I'm not sure how to do this in max but in maya there is a "use background" material which comes up solid black, blocks everything it's in front of, but also doesn't show up in the alpha channel. If you keep give everything the "background" material except your windows then that will work.
if that doesn't work then make one pass where the walls are solid black, while keeping the window whatever color you want. Then make another pass where the walls are solid black again and, then make those glass panels a solid white shader. Use that second pass as a luma matte to the first. -
01 Jan 2009hmm there is a plugin from cebas called psd manager or smt like that there you can render it on a psd file with layers but im not really sure how it works
