Does anyone know if it is possible to quickly render a scene that includes many many trees as editable meshes? I'm trying to render a landscape scene but as soon as starting adding the trees (10,000 polys each) the render time increases hugely, i'm using mental ray.
Has anyone ever come across a way to render a scene that needs lots of trees that look quite realistic with good shadows but doesn't slow down the render time too much?
Any help hugely appreciated

Mental Ray has proxy objects (As does vray) that will allow you to render thousands of hi-poly objects without using too much ram.
I haven't used MR's before so I can't tell you how they work though...I'm sure a search of cgtalk or google may help.

Cheers for that...sounds perfect - i'll have a search. Just quickly do you know how well that works generating shadows?
