Ooooooh ok. I misread your post
Max tracking has 3 steps:
1) Do a camera match on your scene so that your viewport perspective matches your camera perspective
2) Setup tracking markers to track data from video and translate their position to tracking helpers youve set up in your viewport
3) Pray
Haha...seriously though.......once youve done the first 2 steps it can take a loooot of tweaking to get a solid track. Usually, 6 markers are the recommended amount but in more complex scenes I've gotten up to 30 or 40.
I'd REALLY recommend doing the rhino-tabletop-track that comes with 3dsmax...it's the only tutorial for tracking I've ever done and it taught me all I needed to know
