Hi, it seems really hard to make a great underwater scene. I'm trying one for a new project I'm working on.
I can't make Volume light through the water

I saw some videos from Scanline.de and this is awesome!! these guys made their own plugin to optimize Vray and 3d max.
But for my project it's different. Anyway here is what it looks so far. The pipe to the left is only a test.
If you have some free time, I could send you the file to make your own test, or to steal my shaders heheheh.

wow, this is awesome! i wish i knew the slightest thing about vray, but, alas...
i hope you get the volumetrics in there! but, if you don't, it still looks great!

Thanks Cam, when I import the water surface in the tutorial scene, the volume light is ok. So I'll find tonight why mine don't work. And some bubbles will add a nice touch.

Hey - i dont know anything about Max, but you can fake it in Maya by using an animated texture on a spot light - see the video at the bottom, the result looks good;

It covers it a little, I hadn't noticed it before iest_rob talked about it.

Cool! Did the tutorial help then? Looks really nice man, i like the glittery specs in the water, nice touch.

Yes I didn't put the same map in the map projector than in the tutorial, but I use some noise.
Now it's time to start the project, less than 20 days left.

yeah, this looks great!
the only slight critique i might have would be that it seems like the pipe, as it's vanishing off into the murky background, seems to vanish pretty abrubtly.
but that's a minor, minor thing i found only after looking at it for a while.
nice work!

I dont really understand the specularity on the water surface and the direction of the projected light... they dont match up.

Weider if you want to do nice volumetric light jys use a few spots with a cheese maping, ie white with holes then make them tur really slowly, that way you'll have a feel of 3d cause yours are really flat. Check my beluga on my site.

i'm betting that white strip isn't the reflection of a sun, but something representing a dock or a ledge of some sort. the sun is off camera on the right side.
i think.

For some reason the surface of the water is bothering me. It looks like it would if you are looking at the water from air. But since you are looking at it from water it should look abit different. From what I remeber the reflection somewhat falls off abit the further away. I can't really explain it well. I tried looking at google but it didn't really show up anything.
Although i found this on google
http://www.xenomorphic.co.uk/gallery_dte.htm (go down to #13 and watch the video) It somewhat shows what I am talking about.)
