02 Oct 2006Ive been looking all over for a set of fish references, im wanting to closely study the gills and mouth region for my university project which involves modeling a fish in 3d.
I wanted to be a step ahead of everyone because im not supposed to start this for another 2 weeks, but whos stopping me? lol. I plan on doing an animation in the style similar to finding nemo (doesnt everyone want too) but i just love the humor and how awsome the little fishes look

02 Oct 2006Think am gunna buy a new sketch pad tommorow and burn of a load of sketches for my own design tbh.
Im planning on doing a few fish in the animation rather than one, and do a story board first tho probally gunna be my first animation i actually plan out lol (Probally my first serious animation) -

But back on topic a touch... I think it's a good idea to get a broad range of reference - I mean, don't just use Nemo as your reference and stylistic goal. (You'll only end up very frustrated and disapointed!) Check out the BBC motion gallery and get a good all round idea of how fish move (yeah yeah... we all know how a fish moves... but you're going to need to really study it) Then when it comes to sketching out ideas - think about the fish's personality while you are sketching. -
04 Oct 2006I aint just gunna use finding nemo as reference lol, i am a fisherman myself i have a series of photographs taken of me holding fishes But they aint good enough and i cant get my fishing gear down to uni atm. Im going to rent out a book next week when i can get to the damn libary (stupid swipe card wont work) gunna get out a fish book or somthing.
