i didn't know where else to put this so here i go, here is my problem basicaly, i would like to record whats on my camera to my pc but how? here is a video giving details of my problem... (4.6mb)

hmm..this is what i do: i put dv cable into my camera, then i press F5 in Premier, then press play to see footage on cam, and then i press record on premiere(i can see footage playing on capture window).

but the this is that it says, device ofline so i cant even press anything(i see the record button, but i can't click it) and i have no video anyway... i got it working in windows movie maker but i still can't come around to it on premiere...

yeah, you're going to want to use firewire man, I don't know that premiere will even see your camera if you are using component cable. and you'll want to use firewire anyways, because it's faster. If your camera doesn't have a firewire output, you might have to find out if your university has a capture deck that you can just capture straight off the tape to digital and take your camera out of the equation.
If I were you, i'd look in premieres help files and search for "log and capture."
That section will have the information you need to get this thing going.
Also, if you could post a link to the make and model of your camera, and video card, that could help us figure out what kind of hardware problems might be in the way.

i can't get firewire for my cam that's the problem... it's rather old... i might have to get a new one someday, thx for all the help guys, i'll try a few things out... zach, i'll try finding all that out for you... and hype, i'll try that too,

you can also use USB, if it is digital, it will have at least one of the two.
