I have my Q&A tomorrow, but so far we've been given an assignment for the first week to just create a profile and familiarize ourselves with the campus (site) and everything there is.
At first I was bummed out we didn't start instantly, but then I realized there is HOURS of training videos, Maya tools, rigs and library videos to watch that aren't even part of the actual curriculum. Just things you need to watch when you have time.
It's awesome man.

Ohhh excellent man! Im really exited about the whole place - was the essay you were suppose to write hard (in the apllication? Or is it just something they throw in so that they can have a better understanding about yourself? That's the only thing im quite nervous about.

I took a good amount of time writing it, but I can't tell you how much it weighed into getting accepted. I really have no idea heh. Basically I just wrote why I wanted to do it and what I hoped to get out of it. I wouldn't worry too much, just be honest and it'll flow.

what's the essay you have to write? is it like an entrance essay, like why you want to be an animator? and do they only teach Maya?

Cool, heard so many good things about it.
@Hype, yes. It's Maya only.

Hey JayG...just curious....how much exactly is it per semester/course?
-
iest_rob 1,671 posts
The essay's basically about animation, and why you want to do it - so ive heard.
Youre allowed to use any software you want man, i think they have rigs for pretty much all 3d apps, but the teachers use Maya.
The fees are;
Registration Fee: $150
Student Tuition Recover Fund Fee (Clifornia Student only) - $40
Class 1 - Basic Foundations $2,550
Class 2 - The Principles of Body Mechannics $2,550
Class 3 - Introduction to Acting $2,550
Class 4 - Advanced Acting Techniques - $2,550
Class 5 - Short Film Development - $2,800
Class 6 - Short Film Production - $2,800
Tallying up to $15,990

Hey guys, I'm in term 2. It's a pretty great program. Like anything though, you get out what you put in. That said, there are lots of amazing animations coming out of that place.... keep an eye out for the student winter showcase.... they're collecting submissions now.
@hype-- they don't really teach maya too much. They just have some basic videos about how to make keyframes, use the graph editor, etc. If you like, you could use any other 3d program you want. The only thing is that you won't be able to use their rigs or shelves/tools. You can actually do the program in 2d (a few people do that I think) or stopmotion (I don't know anyone who has done that) if you wanted to.
@hype, tyson, anyone else... if you have questions, feel free to ask me

It took about 2 weeks if I remember. Also the term just started so they are super swamped with support and making sure things are going smoothly with all the noobs (like me). No need to worry

I got an email last night with the Exam, I must say it was waaay harder than what I though it would be! I think I did alright in the Math's part of, but the English part totally threw me off guard! I really hope i've done enough in it to pass
Do you guys keep a blog of what you're learning from over there? Would be an intresting read, I've been browsing some people's bloggs, and the progress these people make is great!

Roughly how long after taking that exam did you guys hear back from Animation Mentor? I know it's the weekend right now, but they like to keep you on the edge of your seat don't they? I find myself checking my emails every 20mins or so - just to see if ive received anything

Hard to believe we're starting week 6 already here. Grats on getting in bro, I knew you would. It's funny because even though all we're doing is posing characters and doing simple ball stuff it takes up SOOO much time. Been a lot of fun so far, I'm sure you'll dig it.

Just been assigned my first Mentor - Eric Lessard - he's worked on Shrek 2, I cant really find much info about him on the Internet, but I've been told that he's one of the best Mentors on AM! That rocks!!!
