Yeah - I struggled for ages with that Jay, and after I decided to open the file with editPlus and saw the simple Maya 8.0 Verision blah blah blah, and decided 'hey what happenes what I change that 8.0 to 7.0?' and it worked a treat, I was over the moon! Dont know why Maya doesnt let you save out as previous versions, I find it very stupid.
I've never used a Mac before, but that sounds like a right old pain Zach! I totally agree that someone knowing a little less about this sort of things would definatly had gone to the boss an demanded an Upgrade.
Talking of upgrades, does anyone use Vista yet? How is it? I can't find any info anyware saying if Maya runs with Vista - or Maya 7.0 to be precise, does anyone have any info on this?

I was a beta tester for Vista, and it sucked like six months ago. I highly doubt that they have anywhere near all of the bugs ironed out. Apps will run on it by now, but the problem is that it just eats all your resources like a maniac, and ends up not being anything more than a shiny, resource hogging desktop. When I was running it, (on a spec'd out machine I might add) it felt like I was running an emulation, but at that time they were having problems getting the openGL stuff functional. In my opinion, it most likely wont be ready for a year or so. People who buy it, won't be really gaining anything by upgrading other than a new look, in which case, just get a program that allows you to change the look of your desktop.

I mean, when you're running xp, they are still sending out security patches and updates almost weekly. Do you think that Vista is going to be any better? Like I said, I'm trying to make the full move to linux.

I often wish I could just run Linux but I use my PC for too much stuff like gaming and all that which I can't do if I didn't run Windows.

to be honest, using Xubuntu, when I run xp in wine, (windows emulator) it almost runs as fast as my windows box runs windows.

wow, dude, sounds like Apple might be using Microsoft-ian techniques now! that totally sounds like microsoft! jamming up the software to falsely make you believe you need to upgrade or buy the next magic thing to make it all work. hehehehe...
i don't mind OS X or windows, but i still am not too thrilled with linux. i'm not a command line person.
I kinda look at operating systems like cars... sure, if we had our way, cars would never break down and never need gas, would always be clean and smell nice inside, would never need new tires or brakes or anything. But, the reality is that someone else has to provide them for us because we can't build cars (well, most of us, anyway). And no matter how new and shiny your new car is, and how fast it goes, someday, DEFINITELY, it is going to need washed and new tires and brakes, and maybe even something severe like a new transmission. There are cars that are junk, even when new, and there are cars that claim they can run longer without needing worked on.
what it ends up coming down to is what kind of car do you like?
I totally feel your pain, though! i'm not upgrading to vista for a while, even though my computer is SO ready to be 64 bit! I want them to iron out some of the vista kinks before i get it. it tooks me YEARS to move from 2000 to XP. Thanks for the heads up on vista!

In terms of Vista, I can get it free because of school, but I have been reluctant to get it because I know it hogs resources, and I don't see any advantages over XP as of yet. I want to install linux on my machine. Apparently there is a way to boot OSX also so I might do that because I like the OS.
That is just stoopid how they did that, apple is becoming more and more selfish lately, I fear for humanity.

hahahaha mark. I hate those commercials. They remind me of pepsi vs coke. They are putting down windows in order to sell themselves. Just like Pepsi puts down coke. While coke and windows don't bash the competitor. Its just bad sportsmanship imo. They should just focus on themselves and not others.
