In my building!
Yep... rushed back from the office following a call from my flatmate to say that our apartment building was on fire!
By the time I got back it was out but it was total chaos in the small road leading up to the building - about 10 or so fire engines. I could see the damage from the outside... a room on the 14th floor was totally gutted and smoke damage goes all the way up the side of the building to the 23rd (top) floor.
I was told that some people had gone off by ambulance (then probably got stuck in Bangkok's rush hour traffic!) but no-one was seriously hurt. However we were quite worried about our cat stuck up on the 20th floor with only the alarm bells keeping her company and potentially overcome by fumes.
We had to wait it out quite a while before they would let my flatmate charge up 20 flights of stairs to conduct a daring rescue!... He said it was kind of like a scene from the Titanic what with all the water pouring down the stairs! Good job he did though as she was quite freaked out.
So I've just been waiting now downstairs for the last 4 and a half hours before they would allow us in. Fortunately those on floors 14 and above have power and too much smoke damage from what I can see. But I'd say there will be quite a few people with soggy rooms in those lower floors... water everywhere!
I'll try and get a few pics up in the coming days
