On taking a second look, after initially falling out of my chair, and hiding behind the couch sucking my thumb....one thought occured to me....
How INSANE is it that there is stuff like that even alive??? That's freaking unbelievable! Creepiest thing ever. Definitely "over nine thousand" creepy points.

Wow!! This thing is insainely huuuge! But why on earth did they have to kill it? Couldent they just have tagged it or something? Thats what I hate about humans, if they find one thing out of the ordinary they have to go out there and kill the thing, and keep it as a trophy, instead of keeping it alive, tagging it, and that way we could learn more about them.

Agreed.
I reckon being eaten by one of them would be a fair site better than a shark. It'd be like being eaten by a giant vat of jelly, you just float around inside.

That's not even that big, seriously. It's small for a collossal, and there have been larger Giant squid sightings.
And Cam, those things have beaks like a parrot, except that they're the largest sharpest beaks on the planet. Think the size of both of your fists together. Their tentacles are just smooth suckers, they have razor sharp hooks and teeth on the suckers, so by the time you get to the beak, your shredded to pieces. Then it'll take bites out of you bit by bit while shoving you in.
I'd rather be eaten by a shark any day.
And Iest, I don't think there was anything they could have done to save it. Usually when they're brought to the surface they'll die either way. I think it got a hold of whatever they were fishing for, and they had no choice but to bring it up so they could untangle it from their lure. The stress from bringing it up is what kills it I think.

We're all doomed.

Why does it have to be a beak? That has got to be for the purpose of scaring the crap out of me alone. I can't imaging anything that is scarier on some sort of alien thing. I'd rather the squid had sledge hammers for teeth and chainsaws on the end of the tentacles. At least then it'd be reasonably scary. But a huge, sharp beak on a tentacled brain.....

I had to do some research on them for a project here at work. I can't talk much about it because of contracts and all, but lets just say they can get much bigger than reported.
