Meh.
Don't go see this expecting a delicate twist of brilliant plot lines and fantastic story telling. Half the movie makes no sense even if you've seen the others, and there is absolutely no climactic ending. They take 2.5 hrs to advance the story by like...5 minutes. There are some points where the effects are really amazing, like in the short fight at the end. Most of the stuff including magic is neat eye-candy, but there isn't that much magic throughout the movie because some new bitch lady outlaws it's use at Hogwarts.
I'd still recommend seeing it, but I was expecting a lot more. IMAX was rad as always.

I disagreeing, I really liked it... But its probably because im a fan of the books even if that was my least favourite one.
For me, the biggest plus in this movie is that you can really see the actors actually learning how to act, was coolio.

Yeah there was a few bits with some neat acting. Like the scene with the 3 of them in the bedroom or whatever and they are all talking and laughing.
When Harry has the first dream and he goes "LOOK AT ME!" my heart jumped into my throat, that was neat.
I ordered books 1-6 today on amazon so I can catch up with the goodness.

The movie explained to me one bit of info though, that I didnt get from the books. Tis the main reason I thought this book was shite.
Originally I thought the reason harry was all.... menopausal (for lack of thinking of a better word) was coz the author was trying to get accross teenage angst and the whole rebellious side of the age group which I thought was stupid. But, apparently I was way off and from the movie, it actually really makes sense and fits nicely.
By me saying the actors are getting better, its true, but they still aint great.
I reckon the best actor in this movie, same as all the others is Mr Filch's cat.
Superbly done cat.

Hahah yea I'm sort of sick of Harry's inability to smile....ah well I guess the poor chap has a lot on his plate. I think I will mail him a carrot to cheer him up.

Hes sexually frustrated, and I don't think you can help him with that, if only Herminony wasn't so frigid

Good gravy, that was the most jumbled plot I've seen in my life. WAY TOO much going on with hardly any room for character development. And it's still 2 1/2 hours long.
From what I've heard, the fifth book is about the size of the Bible. Now, in terms of writing a screenplay based on that in under three hours, the writers did an okay job fitting in the key plot points. But that's all this film feels like: plot points. I never once felt like I was watching any of the characters on the screen developing or even being used. There is a difference between bringing in familiar characters and just not using them at all.
A lot of people keep telling me that this is just a bridge for the ongoing plot (much like filler in a TV series). Well, here is how I look at it. Imagine if you got a free pie every year. Now, after four pies, the fifth one is 80% whipped creme and 20% actual pie filling. Oh sure, a better pie will come next year, but does that mean you should be happy with the one in front of you.
