i went in with some high hopes, but really not expecting much. and boy was i disappointed!
It was beautiful for sure just about any shot if taken in a still frame is an amazing piece of 3d work. but as soon as its starts moving it all goes to hell we can all thank robert zemeckis for that one.
well i was gonna rant a while on this but now that I've started to recall the movie I'd rather curl up in a dark corner so ill leave it at this. Beowulf is an absolutely beautiful movie, constantly throughout the show I pulled myself back to reality to admire the look and feel.
BUT looks alone wont save this movie at all no story or character development bad timing, just over all something you may wish you never saw.. or spent money to see.

From what i've seen in trailers and such the animation is fricken hrorible and i've seen better from some friends here.
The models + textures + scenes + setup looks as nice as you'd expect from a modern day 3d film, but I dont think I could sit through 10 minutes of it even if it is rendered nicely.

I saw this movie last night, and it was exactly what I had expected. It was some seriously amazing CG. I think that they followed the generic recipe for making a movie, so they did ok. It's quite an undertaking, and to be honest, there were some parts where I forgot the movie was cg, only a second or two, but it was because I was bored and zoned out and came back in. lol. But overall, I have to say that they definitely raised the bar a bit concerning quality. Because wow, at the end I thought to myself, why was that all CG? They should have just done it with real actors.....

It's too bad that people are claiming "no story" when the story itself of Beowulf is in the top tier of most epic stories of all time. It's a 100 page book written in prose from like 1200 years ago, how in the world could they screw it up? Not like they had epic amounts of events to compress into a movie like in most stories. The actual story is really short and to the point. A couple comments in here said the story was amazing and some said it sucks.
Is it the Beowulf story you don't like or did they truly do a bad job on the screenplay?

the story of Beowulf is great I really think they messed it up for the movie. It is still right to the point but i still don't think they captured it very well.

Dude, the Chicago Tribune said that it was dissapointing to see a movie like Beowulf where they spent all that money and everyone looks like Clutch Cargo with botox. OUCH!
If you've never seen Clutch Cargo, here is what it looks like:
