So I'd like to do a new video tutorial...does anyone have suggestions for topics?
It doesn't have to be limited to Max tutorials...I've had suggestions in the past for sound editing tutorials, or maybe some kind of compositing tutorial.
Give me your ideas....and hopefully sometime in the next few days I'll pump one out

compositing in after effects tut would be nice, maybe include how you export all the different parts of the render(beauty, AE, depth, etc) and how you bring them all into after effects. i know its simple but hey i'd rather watch a Ty tutorial then try to figure it out on my own(not that I dont like figuring things out on my own, i'd just like to see the most efficient way to do it straight off)
and maybe your general character animation workflow? like your use of keys and the graph editor and such, although that might be a bit too personal, apologies if so.

i'd also like to see a tutorial focusing on "finishing" the project, like how you take the renders and make the final post-production. i'm a student and i find that a lot of times my work lacks some of those fine nuances that separate professional work from student work. i find that i can make all the separate passes (i work in maya) and comp them more or less but there is always a lack of refinement, if you will, in my final output. so i would like to see how you go about completing the post production; more about the theory and reasoning (insight) behind your choices.
another good one would be if you could talk about your workflow when starting a project on your own. I am planning (by myself) on starting some shorts pretty soon hopefully and that would be very valuable to me. like maybe you could cover one of the projects from your website; from beginning to end (though, of course, not in depth just some good insight on the process).
those are two i would like to see.
edit: that transformers piece you did for a simplycg challenge would be a nice choice or maybe one of those glumpers shorts

rbrambila took the words right off my keyboard - I was really impressed with the way that your Transformers shot came together, and loved the HDR compositing you did to finish it. A talk-through of that (render passes and compositing in AE) would be marvelous. I have my methods for doing that kind of stuff but I'm always really interested to see how other people do it.

I mentioned this before in another thread, but I'd love to see how you do exploding heads (the mouse, glumpers growth gun) and exploding buildings (VFX shot with the house destroyed by aliens)
thanks!

I'd love to see your process for making organic/living things explode. That's something that there's not really alot of tutorials out there on. Yourself, Pete Draper, Allan McKay... there's lots of tutorials on making structures explode, or hard material things. But I've never seen anything on having living things explode or pop. Not even a tutorial for a balloon popping. I think that's a very untapped area.

I really like the compositing tutorial idea, as well as the orrganic exploding idea. I vote either.

hype: yep! Definitely! Net time I have a few hours free I'll be putting one together

I think I'm going to go the compositing/render-pass route.

I'm down with the rendering pass idea for sure thats something I've always been interested in but never took the time to teach myself.

Well I spent the last few hours trying to get a video tutorial together for a shot I did this weekend....but the STUPID f@#$$ing AUDIO didn't come through for the FOURTH time lol....so I think I'll post the shot I did without the tutorial, and do a tutorial on something else, because having spent the last 2 hours recording things for this one, I'm now sick and tired of it

That's too bad. It must've been frustrating to try to do it 4 times! Is it a software problem? I used this program to do my screen capture. I think it should be able to record audio ok too.... and it's free!

Yea mate I was using camtasia...
The reason I did it 4 times is because the tutorial was in 2 parts....
So try one I recorded it, and no audio came through
Try two, I recorded it with audio, but it crashed while exporting at the end.
So try three, I recorded part two, but because it crashed the last time the "record with audio" settings didn't save, and I didn't realize I was recording with no audio again.
Try four I managed to get part 2 with audio, but don't have the energy to re-record part 1 again :/
I posted the animation in the gallery though.

Camstudio is actually different than camtasia. Camstudio is free! Just wanted to suggest it as a free alternative.
Sounds like you know what the problem was though.
See ya,
