What YOU up to?

Well sometimes it can get a bit quiet around here because people have jobs and lives and we can't all be forum rats, but I thought it would be interesting to share what you've been up to lately.

Can be anything....studying for school, working on a secret project, learning the language of the tibetan wolf-mongers.....let's hear what's going on with YOU!

As for me, at work here we're doing the Firefox ad contest for fun (so I'll have our entry posted in a couple of weeks). We're also doing some regular commercial work AND we've got a short film in the works which I'll be working on for the next few months. Besides that I spend a lot of time in the gym getting ready for the BEACH and summer which is only a few months away! Can hardly wait since it's still snowy and crappy here this time of year.

Thats where I've been at for the past couple of months, sitting on the beach working on Editables... It's been fun, but I do miss doing cg + 3d, and most of all I miss my mates back in Newcastle.

Nice idea Tyson! I for one am pretty damn busy at the moment and can't seem to find very much time / energy to post as much as I'd like (though I do drop by and check the new threads most days)

Currently working pretty hard on our teaser for Cannes. With luck we'll have a website up and running for the event and will hopefully have the trailer online (Will keep you posted on that). As for specifics... well I'm still animating there, but have moved into more of a TD role too, developing character rigs and writing MEL scripts to aide in the workflow. A great opportunity for me, though probably came about because it is still a fairly small crew at the mo (We're certainly not at full production speed right now).

I've also been the monkey in the gimp outfit... hehe! We're using mocap in this project and I was chosen to don the skintight lycra bodysuit! Sadly we weren't permitted to take pictures of the event - but then, that is probably just as well as it wasn't a pretty sight I can tell ye (Man... that suit is tight! )

Outside of work I'm kinda talking to some expats that are also animators and am hoping to do a collaborative animated short. We're still kinda at ideas stage at the mo, difficult to get momentum as we are all very busy... but as it progresses I will of course keep you all posted.

Aside from the 3D thing... well all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy - so yeah, I guess I am dull! lol. In truth I actually haven't been up to very much out of work for quite some time. A work friend recently got married and had a massive party (and I'm talking huge! The brides uncle is a former Prime Minister... so it was a hi society event) I think I have some photos so will post later.

Erm, yeah I think that's it really. I'm a little sunburnt as the hot season is nearly upon us (As I work in a darkened room and never see the sun during the week I will always try to get some sun on the weekend and chill by the pool for an hour or so)

I've been very busy the past month - after having that injury at the beginning of December, i missed 2 months of work (I work for the Gwynedd County Council, using AutoCAD and soon Bentley MX to design road improvements, and a lot of School Health and Saftey stuff) so the workload when i went back was huge, no one did anything, just left it all for me to do, not happy but oh well. Im qutting the Council soon, and going down to London to Escape Studios to study Maya (got an interview type thing next Monday!) and im really looking forward to it.

I've been helping out a local Welsh band called Frizbee by designing their CD cover and sleeve artwork for the past month or so - it was awsome to the such an oppertunity, as i'd never done such a thing before - you can check it out here if you'd like :

It's all in Welsh but you can see the basics, and listen to a clip of their songs. I did the 'Pendraw'r Byd' album cover.

I visit my Girlfreind on the weekends, she's in Uni at Liverpool studying Fine Art, she recently had an exhibition and it went down really well, i did the posters for the exhibition for her and the team, you can catch a review here:

My GF's called Hannah Fray - she did the woodcut, but the pic here doesnt really do it justice really - it's 15 foot high!

Me and my freind have just got an oppertunity to work again with Frizbee in creating a CG Music Video for one of their new songs, which will be great! We've also just recived a Grant to buy us some equipment, such as a new PC, and maybe a few Render Boxxes.

I regulary go out walking mountians, just to get out of things now and again, plus it helps heal my leg after my injury.

Im currently working on this 10min short film with my friend, it's ging great, but it's going really slow. It's gonna be based in the boardroom:

I got the job and now i got very busy with job works.well i m kinda happy the job and pc at works i have.

I got it as architect modeler and Lighting artist.(i have never thought of doing architect modelling..) but i almost surprized myself after building my first architect building.. (i havn't any idea before how it could be done..) and had to refined a lot of messy old models of past modelers,though it was boring..
Would post some images after sometime..
and yeah it's fun working on new pc at job!!(LCD flat screen monitor,FX card, lots of ram...woaahhh having a lot fun)

it's been a two weeks only i m working as pro...and miss cgtalk and some forums like these a lot....

Man this year is going gr8!! GOD is with me..lots of things r happening in my life...Gr8 days!!!!

I was at school for 1 semester and that was it. So now that I don't go to school I am working full time so I can actually afford the $15,000 a year for university. Luckly I will recieve partial scholarships(Entry scholarships) but that is not even close enough to pay for it.

So besides from working I have recently picked up a rubik's cube and I have solved it many times. The first time I solved it was all by myself, so no help from anyone. That took a really long time. Now I learned some new sequences and my best time is just over 2 minutes. In about a week or so I am going to start to learn how to speed cube.

On the terms of art the only things I have been doing are redoing/retouching art pieces that I have done over the years so I can use them in my portfolio for university.

Other than that I have been slacking off.

I got back to school (university), still in Architecture to do my masters

I'm still working in passtime in an Architecture firm (a little of 3D, AutoCAD).

So I'm a little bit busy, this is why I don't post a lot and didn't work on a personnal 3d project for a while (I stopped my city project until the summer).

-At the end of April, I'll have to finish a Theater project, so I'll probably send some images if I have made some good.

-After that, I'll have a month to make an architectural contest with a futurist theme. I'll probably post some images too (at the end of May).

-And then, I'll continue my city project and will try to finish it for september. And back to school again!

K... so I'm out of work... and I have way too much spare time on my hands... so I'm busting my rear to learn more!

Really though, since there's no work at the studio, we re-painted, and re-carpeted the place. Now I get to spend my time there working on pitches in a paint and carpet fumed place

I'm really trying to keep my head during this time... having worked over 2 1/2 years strait on tv shows in a fast paced environment to this, "not having to do anything unless you really want to" kind of lifestyle... with a restricted budget

Playing the waiting game is taking it's toll

AND I'm torn between 2 worlds.. I have a great seat at the studio I'm at, but I just got an interview for a 3D production in town where I would obviously be a junior (vs current supervisor) but is it really what I want?

well ever since i started working as a 3d artist i have had less and less inclination to do my own 3d stuff, then my pc died (rip) the replacement powerbook, is wonderful, but no good for 3D, i painted in photoshop for quite a while, but more recently i have found a truly inspirational medium, it doesn't require a computer, and requires great skill and patience to create beutiful artwork that only lasts minutes! this medium.... is COFFEE

yes i have been practicing the exquisite artform call latte art, see my results below, to the left, a couple of months of practice and this is where i am, (i only have a cheapo espresso machine) the image on the right is from my favourite coffee shop in soho, every cup (even takeaway) looks like that!



as for my work, currently working on an ad for a major car company, cant say who, but here are a few i have done over the last 6 months


this one was quite a cool job, theres a lot of cg in it, very little is actually left real in the outside shots, did bits of lighting and crowd work, aswell as, partially modeling and texturing the catapults. and almost every shot I had to replace the backgrounds with cg skys and horizons

Well I've been up to school. Thanks to a college teachers strike I now have to do 7 weeks of class in just over 3 weeks. I'm there 7 days a week 8 hours a day right now.
