Im currently working on a landscape project and need advice on making a sky.
My reference is this picture
I currently have this much
I've never made a sky in Maya before, so i'm at loss on the many possible techniques I can use to do this. So far, I've just made a sphere and applied a gradient texture to it that i've made in photoshop. I was thinking of maybe adding fog and some redish clouds in the upper area of the atmosphere. I also need advice on making that really bright yellow glow in the sky from the ref.

There are two methods that you can use to create that glow in the background that i know of.
If you are allowed to post process your image in photoshop or something like that, i would render out a pass of just that background and the blur it on an additional layer on top, using a blending mode of screen or pin light or something.
Or if you want to do it all in maya, you can set your background to glow. In your blinn/lambert/phong whatever there is a rollout pretty far down called "special effects" go in there and there is a "glow" value, it is set by default to 0, but dial it up and you'll see some nice effects!
thanks a bunch, got it to look like this now.

Are there any good tutorials on how to use environmental fog? This one I was following doesn't really work, I think it's for an older version of Maya.
