Maya Software Motion Blur

29 Jan 2007I'm new to motion blur, can I just use the built in option or should I use something else? It's for a simple ball bouncing project for school.

29 Jan 2007for something like that i'd say sure, just use the built in option, But for doing serious motion blur, i'd look into using RSMB pro to do it in post, or the blur2d autogui perlscript, available on highend 3d if you have large sequences. Unfortunately, the 2d blur will always look kind of cheap and corny.

30 Jan 2007Excellent, thanks Zach. The RSMB one looks pretty neat! I might have a play about with it soon. The one from Highend needs an perl interpretor to run - might leave that one for now, I Dont like installing things that I have no idea what they do.

30 Jan 2007Perl is just a scripting language that allows you to process large amounts of text in a short period of time. It's actually really effficient for doing text crunching stuff like processing through sequences, renaming, doing search and replace type of stuff, And it's really easy to use. Once installed, you just open your command line and type:
perl *name of script*
and you're off.
