Minnesota Maya Users Group Meeting Tonight!

Claymation 600 posts13 Feb 2007Should've posted this earlier. In case any of you other minnesotans aren't aware, there's a Maya Users group meeting tonight at Boston Scientific (used to be Guidant, Rob Halvorsens work).
Pretty sure we're covering Maya 8.5 and 2D vector rendering, maybe some other stuff. And probably drinks at Red Robin afterwards

for a bit there i thought LA might be the only place!
on a side note, I helped make the Red Robin mascot costume about 7 or 8 years ago when they redesigned it!

Claymation 600 posts14 Feb 2007So the meeting wasn't super exciting or anything. We pretty much just watched some demos about ncloth, and one guy showed us some 2D vector rendering he had done of a heart.
The ncloth stuff was really neat though. It seems to be crazy powerful and versatile. He made a car into a cloth object, then made it move using wind, and crashed it into some rocks and had it deform and everything. All in real time too, very smooth (of course i'm sure his computer was amazing though). He showed some other uses, like a character sitting on a tire, and having the tire deflate and jiggle and all. The tearing capability was really cool too. All in all it made me really wish I had 8.5.
That was pretty much it
. I did however win a pretty sweet book: Learning Maya 7: The Special Effects Handbook. That, and the free cookies and coke were the highlights
