only renders in Maya Software? true or false? I'd like to get it working in mental ray if possible.

true, sort of. The only way to get it to render in Mental Ray is to convert them to polygons first, and that can be PAINFUL.....

heh i accept the challenge. Thanks for the info.
Edit: Damn, paintfx owned my computer when i tried to convert to poly's lol.
On another note, I was trying to do a turn around animation of my character, though I noticed the paintfx hair that I made wouldn't get hilighted even after parenting it to the rest of the body, and when I tried to rotate it myself manually, it would skew all out of shape. Is there a way to constrain it or something?

When converting Paintfx to polygons and then rendering those polygons, the hair no longer has the hair look that it had when it was still paintfx. Is there something I need to do in order to retain the look that it had in paintfx mode when in polygon mode so that I can render it in mental ray?

I don't know much about paintfx, but why do you need to render it in mental ray? Can't you render the hair in software and the rest in mental ray, then just composite?

No, I meant render just the hair in software. You can still render the skin and everything else in mental ray.
I can't help you with the paintfx not working well with animation. Although, for now, if all you're doing is a turnaround, you could just animate the camera instead.

ohh, i've never done any compositing or such before. If there is a tutorial about it or something that would be great. I'm going to be doing a lipsync animation and i'll probably be moving the head around a bit for that, but I may be able to figure something out for that.

I just did a quick search and found this, there is probably a video tutorial out there.
You'll see they have a 'fur' pass, no reason why you couldn't do a hair pass.
