Weird rendering anomaly (no Matrix jokes plz ;))

I just thought I'd raise an issue that has been plaguing me for a long time. Basically, when I render an animation directly into AVI format, I get horrible results, with odd pixilations and "time travel" of objects. It looks bloomin awful. Is there something I might be doing wrong?
The alternative is compositing stills in premier, and I've never touched that kind of stuff and it's a bit of a mystery to me. Any help will, as always, be much appreciated

Claymation 600 posts22 May 2007You mean when you render a playblast? I didn't think you could render out directly to avi.
Only thing I could think of would be something wrong with your graphics card

22 May 2007man, you're going to hate to hear it, but image sequences are the way to go. I wouldn't ever recommend rendering straight out to avi unless you are playblasting. And as far as bringing an image sequence into premiere or AE, it's easy, just click on any file in the sequence, and it should automatically see what's going on. That way if it's a few frames that are bad, you only re-render those few, and not the whole thing.

TheOnlyAaron 188 posts22 May 2007Yeah, i dont know if there is a way to render out an avi, or any other video format right out of MAYA, at least without a plugin. Plus i would never advise to do so, always stick with image sequences!
So if this is a playblast, what are your viewport settings? -

22 May 2007uh yeah I don't know either. I would just render as a targa sequence.

Will J 215 posts23 May 2007No playblasting works fine. You can render into AVI in the render globals. Ok so it sounds like it's an unsovable problem. In that case, what should I use to render image sequences? What format should I render into? Also, should it be set to "name.ext.#" or something else? I can watch all my prvious renders in Fcheck without problem, but I want to turn them into an mpeg or some such now.
Also, my premier doesnt install properly so I'm using windows movie maker, will this matter? -
g3org3 355 posts24 May 2007Hmmm I don't know if Movie Maker has that or not. Im not really sure what file sequence to use. Maybe PNG. They name doesn't really matter a whole lot it all be compiled together.
