Hello all, does anyone know how to go about getting a blurred reflection on something? At the min, my reflection is like a mirror, and it just looks daft, anyone have any pointers on this?
Thanks a lot

To blur the relfections with mental ray goto the Attribute Editor then goto the material settings. Then find the mental ray tab and change the "Reflection Blur". Make sure you up the Relfection Rays to increase quality.
Maya does indeed kick ass.

yeah, if you're dealing with maya 5, there is no blurry reflections built in. However, those shaders are what got integrated into maya 6 and up, so they should work pretty good. Same guy they got the SSS shaders that come with maya now. Let us know how it works out man.

Hello, i came across this, it's a render made using 3D Studio Max, if you'll notice the floor by the door, this is the similar blurred reflection i'm looking for. Would i create this using the shadres you guys mentioned?
Thanks

yep, that would be simple to achive with the blurred reflection attribute in 6,
hopefully one of those shaders is correct, and you should get that realistic falloff in the sharpness of reflection, in that case the bump on the floor is also diffuseing the light, (personally i think they went a little overboard with the bump height)
in theory an incredibly fine bump would have the same effect, but in practice this will result a very slow, very ugly result that will buzz.

Hey ant, great stuff, thanks a lot. I'll definatly play around with the shader when i get time, i see what u mean about the bump, i'll play around a bit with this as well. Another image i came across is

This also looks pretty neat.
