Starting Maya From Max

just kiddin'
I have a question mates. I'm going to learn Maya. as some of you know I'm using 3dsmax at the moment. but I want to learn Maya, too.
But as I take a quick look in Maya and you may know, the UI of 3dsmax & Maya are very different. Is any custom UI in Maya that be more likely to Max UI?
and another question is that as a Max user, is it hard to work with Maya? Or may I mix up every thing I have learned from the start?
I just want to use both of them depending on what I want to do. Tyson I think you worked with Max and now use Maya. Can you help me? or other mates? -
Will J 215 posts13 Oct 2007May I suggest the book "Learning autodesk 3DS Max and Autodesk Maya side by side." It's stuffed full of exactly what you're asking for
. I've got it, and it's one of the best learning guides I have ever bought. Should be easy to find on amazon. -

31 Oct 2007i personaly used max for 4 years... this year i swiched to maya.
it's not easy, it's a totaly differant way of thinking... after a month, i start feeling a little more confident with it, but i have no idea how long it is going to take me to get to the same level as i had in max...
i will not use max untill i feel really confident with maya, cause it'll just confuse myself... maybe this summer i'll take max off the shelf again, and start using both...
i think that max is like riding a bike, you don't forget.. it might be a little hard once you first get back up on it, but after a few hours you should be good to go...
if anybody has this book, is it usefull at all? or is it like the 3dsmax bible sorta book.. as in, does it deserves to be baught?
anyhow, if you do start learning maya, my advice is to leave max asside for a bit, and maybe, if you can afford a dvd from the digital tutors (the introduction to maya 2nd edition i think it is) it would really help you out... -
Claymation 600 posts01 Nov 2007I started in max at school, then switched to maya, and 5 years later I tried doing something in max again and had no clue what I was doing. Seemed totally and completely alien to me. -

01 Nov 2007well i tried it out some time back and use it for simple tasks from time to time (PLE rocks )
I had the Editors Choice Edition from Unreal Tournament 2004 it hat a extra tutorial dvd full with ut editor and maya tutorials. Exept for therse tutorials the help of maya helped me a lot i think its a bit better then max's help file you should check it out.
ps: at http://www.3dbuzz.com are a lot of free beginner videotutorials for maya they are good and i think the in the ut dvd were the same
