Fatal Error question

mitm2002 68 posts08 Dec 2007You guys are awesome - I really appreciate the responses to my Booleans question - and of course, now I have another one. I keep getting: "Fatal Error - Attempting to Save Temp" blah blah blah. Anybody know how I can resolve this?

08 Dec 2007I think you need to give a lot more information if you need help. Fatal errors could happen for any number of reasons (could even be a glitch with your PC) What were you doing at the time?

Goobal is right what were you doing. seems that window always leads back to the lack of ram somehow, -

What spec PC are your running or (ulp!) laptop? It does smell like a ram problem (a kind of hybrid between penquin poop and burning guacamole, as opposed to a graphics problem which would smell like wet dog!.) Maya is a pretty greedy application. -
mitm2002 68 posts09 Dec 2007It's a Dell XPS 700. It has 4 gigs of RAM which should be enough, right? As far as when it happened, I was just selecting some vertices - nothing major - the model isn't all that large. And now there's a new weird thing it's doing where it's only shading some of the model, the rest remains only wireframe. Aaaggghhh! It's frustrating. Could it be my graphics card?

mitm2002 68 posts09 Dec 2007Okay, I figured out the shader problem - that was just a dumb right-clicked slip of the hand on my part. And the fatal error has gone away - I tried a bunch of different things - not sure which of them did the trick - but I'm happy again - ha ha.

09 Dec 2007I think you'll find that as you get better with the software those magical errors happen less and less. So many times it's caused by a combination of button clicks you did that you didn't know about or things you tried to do that couldn't be done that just glitched the app. And every once in awhile you'll find an actual bug, but most of the time it was caused by you unknowingly doing something the app doesn't like. =D
