I'm sure this is a no-brainer, but I'm still green when it comes to CG. I have some live action video footage that I want to turn into an image sequence to attach to an image plane in Maya. Anybody know how to do this? THANKS in advance!

Hey man, no sweat, what I usually do is just run it through my comp program, (AE, SHAKE, NUKE, FUSION, ect.) and export it in the format of name.ext.#### this way your program won't have any problem reading it as a sequence, and it will have the file extension ebmedded in it also. Then when you load it into the image plane node in Maya, you can just click the box for load as image sequence. Also, as a side note, it might not be a bad idea when you convert it to an image sequence to export a couple of different resolutions. That way when you just need to see the plate, and detail isn't important, you can scrub through and preview it quicker.

Whoops - me again - I'm using After Effects - I can't seem to get a period to appear between my EXT and Frame#. It looks like AE's only option is to add a space before, but that's not what I want, right?

I think you want name_####.ext......I've had problems parsing files in the past where there were 2 periods in the filename....

Yeah, what Tyson said, you can do it in most apps, but AE sometimes will freak out on it.

That really shaked me for a while too. Also I like to save out of maya as a standard maya image file,( I'am at work can't rememeber file type). But after you do that you can change to png, taga, jpeg, bmp. or whatever you want, using fcheck. That way if you have problems you can still hange it.

I just usually export as targa/png depending on what i'm doing, if its low res or no alpha I just go for JPG, doesn't take longer to render, it just changes the file sizes. Byyy the way, AE can import .iff

You can also export out of Quicktime Pro into a sequence then use Adobe Bridge's batch rename to get your #.ext, you can also tell it what number to start with which is the nicest part, since AE automatically starts at 001. I had to figure out how to get the first image at 000 or my audio was 1 frame off.
