Pneumatics and hinges

I'm currently working on a model of an Apache Longbow which I will post up in the factory soon. I've got a little question for you. When I'm done I'm going to have a locator floating around with a load of custom attributes in it. The one I'm working on at the moment is the canopy hatch opening. I want the hatches to open via a custom attribute (easy enough to do using a set drive key) however there are pneumatic cylinders attatched to the hatches which I want to have following and expanding as the hatch opens. I know I'll probably have to use some kind of constraint, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I guess I will set a driven key on the expanding bit in one of its scale axis' unless I can actually get it to move along out of the cylinder. Any suggestions? Thanks

Will J 215 posts08 Feb 2008Hahaha Diemacht is correct clay. Thanks, that tut is just what I need! I'v just finished the last part of the body and surface work. All thats left now is the gribble, rotors and small parts etc. It looks a bit plain atm, but I'll put up some prelim renders when it's a bit more detailed. I've ben taking precise measurements along the way and working from photobooks (verlinden publications do a great series called "lock on" which show detailed photos of many aircraft, you can buy them from hannants.co.uk.) All the other apache's I've seen on theweb are...well.....not the best in the navy. I really want to do and accuracte and fully detailed one

Will J 215 posts08 Feb 2008I would so totally do that, if I had A: the time B: the energy and C: the skill. Seeing as I lack all three, at least I lack eough to make a transformer. I'll stick with an apache for now....transformers are a few years and a few render farms down the road....
