I can use batch render when using the 'Maya Software' choice, but when I select MentalRay, I no longer get a batch render. I just get a single frame.
I've read the help files, and it looks like it should be working. Is there something I don't know about?!?!
Help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Peter
p.s. I do have the start and end frames set up in the render globals window, along with the Frame/Animation Ext. set up as name.#.ext.
Is this a bug with MR in Maya, or am I just not seeing something?

how are you batch rendering? command line? or from inside maya, if inside maya, then make sure you are going to the menu to do batch renders, the icon on the shelf launches maya software
as for the comand line i cant quite remember what you type, and its all diferent in maya 7 too!
its something like Render -mrfm 'something something something....
it should be listed in the manual, but it does work, 100% sure

Thanks ant-.
I'm doing it from the main menu ( not using an icon ).
I'll have to see if I can find that command line somewhere.
Thanks again

by going to the menu it should work, open your script editor and see if you get errors, ps what version of maya are we talking?

Is it still missing when you're in the rendering sub-menu on the top left - (as oppose to modeling/Aniamtion/Dynamics) and then go to 'Render - Batch Render'? - Does that work?

Ant- : Maya 5 and no errors. It's just rendering one frame. For some reason it thinks that's all I need. The Maya render works fine when batch is selected, however MentalRay does not.
iest_Rob: That's how I've been dong it. No luck at all.
I got a responce in the Alias forum, about turning off Paint Effects, but that didn't help either.

Hmmm - now that is strange, have you tried dissconnecting MR as a plug-in, close Maya, run it up again, and loading the MR plug-in again? If all fails, i'd re-install maya, and make shure you delete your workspace.mel file.

iest_Rob: I'll give that a shot in an hour or so and let you know what happens.
Thanks

No, that didn't work.
I'll have to try the reinstall over the weekend.
This sucks.

Try and delete your 'Envirnoment File' under 'My Docs -> Maya' the Environment file should be there. MAke a copy of it first and save it off you computer - e.g on a USB Pen drive or whatever, and restart Maya - see if that works?

Iam sorry to say but I think the MR intergrated into maya 5 is not batch renderable.
I tryed this a million times and never got it to work till I bought the full blown mental ray for maya. I have maya 7 with the MR in a disk by itself and all is cool.
I never did it to work in 6 or 6.5.
sorry thats what happen to me anyhow

I PEED MY PANTS LIKE A LITTLE GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found the problem!!!!!!!!!
If you can believe it, it all came down to my antivirus program. After turning off my virus protection program, EVERYTHING WAS FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I deserve to have my rating boosted here for having such a nugget of wisdom! Ok, maybe not, but at least a well done mate from Cameron.
I'm hoping that this information will help other Maya user in the future. I can't tell you how frustrating it was for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
