Well...it all depends....you can use the "Render elements" function in 3dsmax to render out things like shadow passes, highlight passes etc etc.....that's the easiest way

Just remember, if you are using the "matte/shadow" material for your background, so as to have a shadow pass that interacts with your footage, make sure to turn off "affect alpha". That way your diffuse render element will be that only, no shadow.
