when i bought the production bundle a few months ago, i got the demo of nucleo pro. i wasn't interested in trying it until i saw a demonstration video from Creative Cow. it's pretty friggin' awesome! haven't really got into it yet, though.

man, it's pretty nice, you can work in after effects while you render, it's faster, and you can do a whole bunch of other cool stuff too.

yeah, dude , the RAM previewing looks awesome! I just don't want to get hooked on using it, cuz the pro version is pretty expensive. what are the differences between the pro version and the regular version. cuz the regular version looks affordable.

Yes, there is an option to set it on one or two procs in the commands. Yeah I'm at a shop that mainly does medical animations, but right now we are working on some stuff for the National Geographic channel. All I can say is that it's about genetic mutations. It's pretty cool, Over at MAKE I always ended up working on the pre-processes and never really got to do much finishing. At the shop i'm at now they pretty much took me on to help set them up with a pipeline and develop better and faster ways to get projects done via finishing techniques. When I showed them the renderpass tutorial, a light clicked on in just about everyones head. Rendertime is always an issue, and with that, I cut rendertime in half at the very least. So even if it's short-term, I would say that it's going to be a really cool experience, seeing as i'm pretty much heading up a whole bunch of projects, and making the animators lives easier.

(hopefully)
Oh yeah, wouldn't be complete without a link.
So yeah, i'll be working here for at least a little while.

I was milling over that actually. And the best thing I can think of is some sort of goofy politics, like how Adobe doesn't sell any network volume software. We just got a whole bunch of seats of AE 7 and instead of sending us one disk with a floating serial, we get like ten packages with ten manuals with ten huge boxes. It was kind of like dang..... just level a forest while you're at it. And the reason that they left that sort of thing in there along with some other neat little secret functions is because tech gods that work at ILM who actually use AE there, have asked to be able to access those functions or something. I don't know, I found it weird as well. But the funny thing is that those kinds of things are all over in all different types of software, most things you can type "man "program" or "program -h" and you will get all the commands if your system knows where you are pointing to. I just wish that it was in the documentation. Because I looked through the docs, and there isn't anything there telling you how to utilize the command line functions or anything. Stomp.

ok, so here is that front end that I was talking about for the batch render. What it does is when you set your scene up like you normally would, and set your render que up and all that how you would want it. You run this script and it creates a batch file where you tell it to. then you just click on the batch file and After Effects renders your scene in the background. I am still modifying the script to work on a mac, but when I do, i'll bust it out. Also, I got that other script working for the roto-tracking stuff. There were about twenty lines I added to make it work better, so test it out for me and let me know what you think man.
here's the batch render maker...
and here's the rotoTracker script. In case you didn't know, you have to create a tracker with the same amount of points that you have in the mask. So for each mask point, you have to have a track. Kind of a pain in the ass, but hopefully it can be made better in time.
This link will be back up soon. I hope...

ok, well i didn't get nucleo. I tried it out, really put the demo through it's paces for about an hour. It REALLY cranked on the RAM previews - seriously cut that time down, which was great! But it didn't affects my render times at all, even though while rendering it upped my proc usage from about 75% to 100%. Strange. In fact, I may email them about it, since there's a little thing on their site that say "let us know if it's not going as fast as you think it should" or something like that. I didn't feel $120 was worth faster RAM previews. If it cut my rendering time, i would've got it, cuz with the short movies I make, I sometimes have 20 hour renders. Oh well.
Zach, dude, nice with cranking these scripts out so fast! I just downloaded them, and will try them tonight. Although, I'm not clear exactly on the roto tracking one. If you were working off the old roto tracker script, it worked fine how it used to. what exactly is different between that one and your changes?

Hey man, sorry about the rotoTracking one. I had a bit of a crisis here after seeing your response.. I thought that I had changed the ability to have the points and tracks have live updating, but it looks like I had posted the script a bit prematurely. I took it back down for now until I get a solution or give up. I know that the two major problems with this script were because features were lacking in 6.5 > versions. So I'm looking through the shake sdk right now to see if I can fix what I got going on. I also emailed the guy who wrote the original script to see if he had come up with anything since the last update. So keep an eye out... I hope to make this script fully featured. I have time to script again!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
Also, I felt like a complete tool when I went to the AE enhancers site, because after I wrote the batch script, I went to the site to contact the guy who wrote the rototracking script and saw that a couple of people had already written batch creation scripts, one that was fairly similar to mine. I suppose I should check there more often before deciding to write a utility.

dang, they just knocked the price of Nucleo down to $50!
