Hey, thanks for the reply - Does this product allow you to actually put the video stright into the PC as well? I cant seem to find anything on there that says it does?

1. Yes, the red, white, and yellow are RCA component cables, and the only way they work in conjunction with s-video is to use the yellow component cable for sound, and the S~video cable for, well.... video.
2. Don't know much about Dazzler, but it looks like it could be a proper solution if capturing from devices that only have component is a must. It's a lot cheaper than buying a video card, but the fact that it converts from component to usb rather than firewire concerns me a bit. It makes me wonder how it is recompressing the footage. In which case it might be better to just take and capture onto your DV camera and then back onto your pc.
All in all, that's a sticky situation man. When I was at school, we had a few decks linked up but we ended up having to capture vhs to miniDV, and then capture the miniDV back on to the computer. In the end, if it was just for transfer and backup, it didn't end up looking any worse than vhs already did..... kind of.

I've gone ahead and bought the DVD Dazzle thingy, ill let you know how I get along with it. This field is somehting that I have idea what so ever about, hopefully this thing should do the trick, and I do hope it lets me put things onto my hard disk instead of burning them staright onto DVD's - i dont want to do that.
If all fails, I'll try that DVCam method you mentioned Zach - that sounds more promising! Thanks!

Hey all - i received this thing through the post today, but it doesn't seem to come up with any setting up instructions

Does anyone know how to go about setting these kinda things up?
At the end of my VCR there's two SCART jacks - one with 'VCR DECODER' and the other with 'TV' labelled next to it. Unfortunately this VCR player hasn't got any of those RCA component jacks, so I've got myself one of those scart plug that plugs into the VCR and splits into those 3 RCA component thing's. Now, I've got those RCA component lead (red white and yellow heads) and that plugs straight into the Dazzle DVD Recorder - and then from the Dazzle right into my PC via USB.
There's pretty much nothing else to it - but northing's still not coming up on my PC

Am i doing something wrong?

weird, no instructions? I'd check their website, then. That's really strange to send out hardware with no instructions. If it was me, first I'd call Dazzle, and if that didn't work, I'd call Boxx (they made my computer, and they are SUPER helpful with everything, even things not "technically" covered by them).
I wish I could offer more advice on the gadget, but I've honestly never even seen one in action. Just stood in the store and read the box.

How do you check to see if my USB Port is a USB 2.0?
I'm browsing through their website, and I've found a documentation about the actual software, but nothing about hooking the thing up - hmmmm

wish i could help,
as for the usb two, two things, how old is our pc, and how ling does it take to copy about a 100mb from your pc to any external storing memory (memory stick, exernal hard drive, etc...)

I think the problem lies with my SCART divider - I've taken the 3 RCA components leads out of the Scart thingy, and put the two audio red and white jacks into the relevant place on the VCR, and then into the Dazzle thingy, and audio comes through the tape, and plays through my PC Speakers - good job!
Unfortunately I haven't got the appropriate cable to put into the Video Out thingy from my VCR - ill go out and buy one tomorrow.
My PC is about 3 years old now Rich.

Cool - USB 2.0 quite an old thing now then Rich?
The red and white plugs are for sound aren't they? And the Yellow for Visuals right? For it to work, i imagine i need to get a cable that goes from the Yellow plug of the Dazzle software into my VCR? Would that make sense? Seeing as the Audio comes through the thing fine? Would it go from the Out or In of the VCR? I imagine OUT - therefore I need a female plug for the VCR, and a male Yellow plug for the Dazzle thingy - do they sell that sort of things? I've tried plugging my Nintendo signal cable into it, but nothings happening, I think because the male head is just a tad too big, and doesn't fit it properly.

i think those are the cables you wanna be using. yeah, red & white = audio, yellow = video.
is this the adaptor you're talking about?
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q ... a=N&tab=wi
and you want to go OUT from your VCR to the IN of the Dazzle thing. (well, usually)

Yeah those exact cables I'm using man, but my VCR doesn't have the yellow plug on it any ware, only an 'In' and 'Out' male and female plugs that usually go out to the TV, and those red and white audio output.
This is what im talking about;
that right side goes into the back of the VCR, and those jacks at the other end split it to those red, white and yellow cables.

neat, i never saw one of those!

OK, I've taken a pic of the situation with my webcam. Hopefully, this shows a better picture of things?
-
hype 2,964 posts
Ahh, now it's all clear!
so the yellow one should plug into the VCR in whichever is the OUT, then. But it sounds like you might need an adaptor to do that.

Sorry - i posted this so that customers Services could see the situation - he couldn't see it otherwise because the previous pic was an attachment.
-
hype 2,964 posts
oh wait - so the yellow one doesn't fit either the male OR female on the back of your VCR?
maybe a new SCART thing is needed then. I'm guessing you tried both SCART slots.
-
iest_rob 1,671 posts
Hey - yeah that's right, doesnt fit anyware. I've tried the scart thingy with my Playstation, and it works fine. Is there an adapter i can get to get the yellow one to fit onto the female one?
-
hype 2,964 posts
i don't know. is it a coaxial cable? if it is, i think that's an entirely different plug and won't work.
is your VCR really old? i've never even seen those SCART things. maybe that's a european thing.

how would it work if I play the video to the TV, and then hook up the TV into the Dazzle thingy? The main house TV has these 3 red, yellow and white outputs, it's a big ass TV, and i don't want to ferry it over to the bedroom if that wont work?
-
hype 2,964 posts
that would work, but might not be the best way to keep what little quality is there. but yeah, if you're not counting on the best quality imaginable, that should definitely work.
well, at least i think so.

iest_rob 1,671 posts
Naah man, those SCART thingys are all the range here in the UK, very good picture quality with them, you can even buy gold-plated scart leads to get superior image quality - must be a EU thingy then?
Cool - ill give the telly a try, it's gonna have to be tomorrow now, dont really want to be dragging my TV around the house at 12am, ill let you know how im getting along - thanks man.
