My camcorder (sony dvd) save video out as MPG. I can't get it into AE. doing something wrong? Should I try to resave the video as another file type and if so what would be the best for AE, I'm really diggin AE right now and want to learn everything.

AE doesn't support all video formats....my guess is that it's a codec that isn't supported.
Use a different app to convert to another codec I'd say (unless someone else knows a better way to deal with the situ)

yeah........that's what I have been trying to do but no luck. I should try premiere I guess. I don't have it installed cus I use AE now...........any feed back on this?

Yeah man, to capture, you're going to need something like premiere or FCP so that you don't end up losing more data from your video than you already do from the default compression your camera does to it. Unfortunately, AE doesn't have much in the way of capturing footage.

I had a similar problem with trying to convert some video from my digital camera to something i could use in AE. I don't remember the formats or whatever but my girlfriend googled for ".mpg to .mov" or whatever it was, and there was a program someone wrote called "mpg to mov". it converted the video and it worked fine. I've done the same thing a few more times now with odd formats, so just do what I (Amanda) did, and don't be surprised if you find what you need.

I have never ever ever ever ever been able to get AE (6.5) to read an .mp3 file. It crashes every time I import one.
Thus, whenever working with audio I always convert my .mp3s to .wavs first. AE has no trouble with .wavs.

hype.........there you are, I will be bugging you for a while till I get a handle on things, Ae is my new love. I didn't know you could enhance an animation with so much stuff before. Thanks for the info, will check my setting tonight.
