Hey people!
Just working on a kitchen interior for a short animation over the next couple days and thought I'd post my progress.
Raw render so far (just the table etc.....no backdrop yet):
Rendered with VRay.[/img]

Hey Tyson! here are the Photoshop brushes for you to love and have and pet and you can call them George.

Cool, I just scored myself a set of George.
What's this?
A Table by tyson?
A WIP thread by tyson?
VRAY by tyson?
George by zach?
On a more appropriate note, it looks great so far.
The crumbs all over are great, makes me feel like someone has been eating a messy heck load of cake (in which case I'd be expecting a big bite out of that slice to show their enthusiasm)
The thing that confuses me a wee bit is the abundance of knives & forks, yet also chopsticks.
Which makes me confused again trying to figure out how people eat cake's or butter toast with chopsticks.

I'm confused and upset.

Update....

Richard 1,943 posts
wow, now i really like the exterior modeling...
wierd, tyson i dreamed that i was going to a cg meeting such as siggraph, and in the train on my way there, i met you and mark behm. we spent the journey together and we to a pub when we got in town, then i forgot, all i remember is saying goodbuy and good luck for the lecture you where going to give. i also remember the town getting destroyed by big alien spaceships...
ps: did you modeled the napkins or you do them with dynamics, aslo if you look at the forks, the one bellow the pile of plates looks like it has the same orientation as the one on the plates... also, how about the cake material, is that procedural or is that just a texture?
is that the pudding cam proposes everytime we get a new user here?

Nice one Tyson - I really like the crumbs dotted about the place, really nice touch. Great texturing work on the cups too- they look great. Looking forward seeing what's gonna happen here.

Update!
The characters are in their default poses and are currently just placeholders.

wow, really nice! is this for work?
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Yep
We're making a bunch of short films here using the same characters, and this is the 1st one.
There are five characters in total...these 2 guys.....2 others I posted in a test animation a while back...and one other I haven't posted yet
-
hype 2,964 posts
Ooooo... short films! like, for entry into animation festivals?
or maybe as spec commercials?
(can't be for a specific client or you probably wouldn't be allowed to post anything)
is the cake icing squishing out from between the layers of cake, or is that just my imagination?
amazing!
hmmm... will you be voicing these guys?
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Hey hype....nah just in-house REALLY short films (approx. 30 seconds a piece)
As for the icing.....not on purpose.....uhh......NO ONE SAW A THING

Ohh sweet! Top notch Tyson! Really looking forward seeing these guys in action! The scene looks awsome, nice lighting and texturing man. Keep us posted!

Alrighty.....now that the interior is finished....I started texturing the actual characters (there are 5 or 6 in total...I forget....oh wait......6).
Here are the first 2 with textures that I've done:
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Btw......yes, the "texturing" is meant to be really subtle......just more or less to give them extra shading....plus the addition of little warts/bumps/moles in a few places.

Tis looking great.
Shouldnt they have icing smeared all around their mouths? Just like me?
-
hype 2,964 posts
i don't know, Cam. it looks to me like someone ELSE ate the cake, and these guys showed up a little too late, and now they're about to get into it over the last piece.

it's amazing how much you can tell from the table and the expressions on their faces!

Did someone say...........update?!?!?!?
-
hype 2,964 posts
is that the little guy that's gonna swipe that last piece, making the others SUPER angry?! (or just really sad...)
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Nope!
And no more hints from me either

....You'll have to wait and see when it's done!

Are these your character designs too? They're absolutely fabulous! hahaha.... I can't look at them without laughing.

ivanisavich 4,196 posts
The characters were designed by Aaron Quist, who also works here at MAKE as an intern
I agree though...the guy's a freaking machine when it comes to creativity....which is perfect because I'm pretty much a creative desert.

Does Aaron Quist have a website with an online portfolio that we could see? I'd love to see more of his designs.
Also, when I first read your post, I thought you wrote that you were a "creative dessert"... For a second, I was wondering what exactly that could be... heh.

-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Yea...he's the "smart" one......clearly you can see he's the only one thinking this situation through
-
hype 2,964 posts
i LOVE that you're implying people with glasses are smart!

The green dude may have the situation scoped out, but I think we all know that mr pink knows how sh*ts goin down.

The only thing I have crits on is the room. The table looks too close to the counter and all the characters seem crammed in there. the corner part of the countertop seems too disconnected and a different colour, I don't know if you meant it to be this way though.
One last thing is in most kitchens where there is a window there is a sink, I think it would make the scene so much more if there was a sink with dirty dishes piled up.
Other then that the style, modelling texturing, lighting is just suberb. I am already laughing at just thinking what the animation could be.
