Ok here's my first blast.
Currently all that's done is the hip movement is blocked out....sooo....there's going to be quite a bit of movement that isn't going to make sense. But I'm just posting this so you people can see my workflow a bit more

I should also mention that once I'm done animating these characters, I'll be changing up their appearances a bit so they don't look identical, and the "Kramer" one will be slightly uglier than the "Jerry" one.

Argh.. i downloaded it. it's 3.33mb and when I try to open it says that movie contains invalid data.
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Hmm......that's strange. After you posted I clicked on it and it downloaded just fine (btw....3.33 mb is right.....I just rounded up to 3.5

)
Anyone else having that problem?

I'm downloading it again. this time I can see the preview. seems that it's ok now.

hehe - looking forward to the updates bud!
Be sure to post regular updates too, as this will be very useful to others here. I'm very interested too, as your way of working is so very different to mine (I don't think I could switch... I think I'd find it too off putting seeing IK dragged around and stuff!)
But your first workflow question is this. Do you animate your CoG until you are 99% happy with it before you even touch any other part of the body or is it more of a 'blocking in' type process on the initial pass.
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Hey Globes thanks for dropping by...I'll be sure to post regular updates as requested
As for the CoG ("center of gravity" for those of you who aren't animation-jargon inclined

) blocking......well normally, yes, I'll animate it to a point where I'm 99% sure that it fulfills the exact motions I want in my character.
That being said, I'll still end up doing a heck of a lot of CoG tweaking as I continue to animate the rest of the limbs....because sometimes my foresight wasn't good enough, or I run into other problems (like maybe I blocked out the body going to high up in the air....so when I go to animate the feet, they can't touch the ground etc)......which means that in the end (looking back)....my blocking stage only fulfilled about 70 % of the final animation, instead of the originally-intended 99%.
Knowudimean?

Looking forward to see updates.
Do you always animate characters in this way?

(mean your procedure, seems interesting.)

what i like about your animations is that they are always entertaining and i wouldn't mind watching them over and over again. i cant obviously say much to crit this animation but as far as i am concerned i would no worry about the final result.
all these clips you chose lately, how do you come up with them, do you just gor on movieways for example and do inni mini mo?
anyway,

Lower body animation is pretty much done.
Here's a playblast (with the upper bodies hidden since there's nothing done on them yet)

Lookin good so far! Being able to see the way you work is helping me a whole lot. Do you animate your character with certain parts hidden or are you doing that just for us?
The door slam is the only weak spot I see (the legs get a little wacky). Are you going to clean that up? Everything else looks great!
Looking forward to see how you texture and light this scene. I can't wait to see this animation come together!

Dang man! Dont know how i missed this! Its excellent to finally see how you animate, I really like the fact that you've hidden the top half of the body when you animate the legs. How did you do this? Did you put on a different layer, and hide it? Or just simply turn off the visibility?
Also - how did you do the 1st playblast? What i mean is that the body and arm still refer to the Lowman contorl thingy the other side of the door, does that not confuse the hell out of you?
Awsome work again man.

Just watched it again, and the only thing that bothers me a bit is the guy that's closing the door's right leg, as hes closing the door the leg slides over very fast.

While we're waiting for Ts upgrades, can anybody transcribe the dialog? I'm not english or american and I don't understand the situation and the feelings of actors.
Thankyou guys!

I think it goes like this, (dont know much about Sinfeld (Larry David is awsome though), but this is what i get;
Guy 1: Terry, my face is my livleyhood....everything i have i owe it to this face, it's my illure (?) my twinkle
Guy 2: Your..your teeth are all brown
Guy 1: Look away im hideious
-
PolecatIV 51 posts
Thanks iest_rob!! Now I understand the scene
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Yep that's pretty much the dialogue......except it's "Jerry" instead of "Terry"
Here's a lighting test. I want to do a lot more texture work (add more dirt/cracks etc to walls etc and messy it up a bit).....but this is the basic scheme.
Btw...I just picked a random frame from what I have so far.....so that's why their arms are still messed up etc

Nice one T. The fridge texture looks awsome! And i also dig the wall texture very much - good job once again!
Ahh Jerry - i was close!

Very good! Nice render, nice, nice... I don't want to imagine the final result with the details you wrote... The T is in the house, or in the kitchen!

i don't know, "the machine" (t!) stopped on this long enough to exhale a front page plug at cgtalk. i'm sure he'll be back on this after a meal and the 4 blinks that constitue sleep for him.
and, of course, i mean all that in a flattering, complimentary, idolizing way.
