Hi!
I saw Hype's excellent camera mapping tutorial and spent the night trying to do it. I'm a bit new to a lot of these techniques, so I feel like I learned a lot (and it took 5x as long as it should have...).
Things I did for the first time (I usually just animate):
Matching perspective (this was rough.... even though my scene is as simple as possible, I still had a really hard time doing this)
Render (isn't that sad? I usually just do previews and call it quits... heh)
Color correct
Rotoscope (I rendered out two green balls and then changed one to blue. I should have just rendered an alpha channel for the balls, but I wanted to see if I could rotoscope it... if only I had known the pain it would cause me... heh)
There are some big problems with it-- the textures are wavy in some places (lights) and don't look at the sign.... that area is really ugly... etc, etc.... but I'm relatively happy with it.
Here's the original image:

Thanks for the tutorial Hype!!!!!

ps. For some reason, my final image is a lot blurrier than the original is. I never blurred it though. I tried adding some grain.... maybe that messed it up? Not sure....

i like it alot... except the small distortion of the lamps on the ceiling. ive got the impression that on the original pic, the distance to the black wall is much further away from camera than in the render...
but i'm a noob so... really great so far!

About the shadows.... I was thinking that you could render out a shadow pass (no objects), screen out everything else besides the shadows and then alter the transparency and blur of that in a compositing package to get the right look to your shadows. I had done a shadow pass in xsi but was confused because they came out pure black.... however I think that what I stated above is a good solution. Any other ideas?
