Hey everyone,
I'm working on a project for MAKE right now that requires me to make some CG fire.
I'll be posting my results here in this thread!
I'll be using PFlow and no plugins.

At a distance it looks great Tyson, how does it look in close-up?

yep, looking cool so far, T! i really like the flame movement, but the texture right now kinda feels like a gradient, like from glowing white at the bottom to orange at the top.
is it all facing particles?
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Hey guys...no...right now the particles are spheres with a noise opacity.
Thanks for the feedback! I've taken all your points into account and will keep working on it

Ok...haven't gotten back to the fire yet....but today I made one of the characters that will be appearing in this spot/animation.

ok, its time to play - - - GUESS THE PROJECT!!!
with your host, Tyson Ibele!!
contestant number one, please state your name.
Sean. or, um... Hype. yeah, hype.
Ok, Hype, what's your guess?
I think it's a public service announcement that has something to do with preventing wildfires!
let's see what the judges say...
(awesome squirrel, btw!)

ha ha, love it, way cute man, and i love the fur on the tail, looks great!

I think the squirrel is going to be lite on fire, and den its going to run through the house with crazy antics to ensue!

More tweakage has been made to the squirrel character, mainly to the fur.

By the way...I did a test animation with this guy last night.
Please take note of these things before viewing:
1) There's no proper lighting in the scene (just a single scanline pass)
2) The shading of the fur was turned off to speed up rendertime (so that's why it looks flat)
3) The initial "run towards the box" looks weird...probably because he's jumping up and down so fast and moving so fast, so it looks jerky....but it was like 2am when I made this so consider that my excuse
4) Towards the end the fur is a bit glitchy. That's been fixed since then.

Looking great T - those eyes are superb. Really looking forward seeing what you come up with on this one.
One thing that bothers me a little bit is the fur around his wrists, looks a little bear, just a minor thing.

Excellent anim man!! Love the use of squash and streach on the little guy!! Excellent emotions in his face, really excellent job.
The opening bit cracks me up everytime, just love how fast hes going.

Hey Tyson- that's pretty funny. My favorite part is when he does the little hops to the side. heh..... funny stuff!

wow, really cool! that's some really cool animation, the squash and stretch and all... pretty amazing!
i watched it like, 10 times in a row, and by the last viewing, he was starting to feel a little rubbery at the end. but i didn't have the feeling after the first couple of viewings, so its probably no big deal.
nice work! didn't see the fire, though!

hehe - that little shuffle before he jumps is quality - nice one T. Is the squash and stretch hand keyed?... and is done by some kinda lattice deformer (i forget the Max terminology) over the top of it?
-
ivanisavich 4,196 posts
Hey guys

....hahah thanks for dropping by! The squash and stretch was added just by animating the scale of the bones.
As for the storyline of the spot...you guys are getting warmer!

lookin' good T.
I had a chance to frame by frame it and take a look at your animation. You have some really amazing S&S in there! especially in that head! Wow, looks great! I'd really like to take a look at the head rig next time i stop by MAKE if that's okay.
I can't wait to see where this one is going.
-
This guy is too cute. I love the big eyes because their nice and readable, and his chubby little cheaks.
I saw the animation with him and loved how you really exaggerated the squash and streach when he pops up onto the table.
Cant wait to see more with him !

I also wanted to say the squash/stretch of the head is sick man. Good stuff.
