Here's something I suppose.
Is there a better way to cut up a sphere for part of the shell?
What I did was,
(1) make sphere at 0, 0, 0
(2) removed bottom half
(3) removed one half
(4) selected faces in front, deleted,
(5) used resize tool to realign vertices in the front to make it even (faces were off-setting of course)
(6) deleted offending faces that were out of shape
(7) used a Shell modifier
(8) relaxed some verts to make the edge loops more evenly spaced
That sound alright so far?
I'm assuming that I could just use a simple "Cut" modifier and cut down in a straight line for the front part of the shell where the head goes, but not sure the best route for that in Max (i.e.-which modifier, I'm used to Maya)
Edit:
I used "Slice" just to try and it worked good at first, but it made several tris.
