Something simple ...
I saw something similar on the Jack Johnson site and wanted to create something similar, because it's cool. It's still WiP, this just a render out of Max.
It could be for a poster or something along those lines.
Fix:
-color balance things
-make the wood less "hard"
-shadows (especially a ground shadow)
-Do some kind of background gradient
-map the buttons and the handle, because they look pretty bad

Nice idea. I think you pretty much have it all in hand with the comments you posted. I especially think that the buttons and speakers should be mapped differently, rather than have a box UV around the whole thing. That is unless you want it to look like it was all carved from one block of wood. (which would also be cool)

I finally got around to finishing it.

i love it, but it could sure use some chamfered edges. just a tiny, tiny amount.

Yeah that's pretty cool! I agree with Hype about the chamfered edges. I like how it looks like it's all from one block of wood. Maybe some saw dust on the ground around it would be cool.
There's a movie with Robin Williams, "Final Cut", where he has a wooden laptop computer, which they actually carved out of wood, each piece. I always thought it'd be neat to have a bunch of wooden electronics.

Thanks! I chamfered it all a bit and it looks indeed a lot better. I need to tweak it a bit more though. The saw dust is a great idea! I'll see if I can come up with something convincing for that.
Thanks!

yeah, that looks tons better!
maybe angle the camera more, a bit of a perspective shot, instead of such a straight on front shot?

Yeah I got it from that picture, it used to be up on the Jack Johnson site, as an ad I think. I think the original is a CD cover now. Maybe I should have been more clear on that, or linked to the original pic. Sorry.
