Yep, GI (Indirection Illumination GI) was on, and the main options I had were,
GI Caustics: Reflective, Refractive
Primary Bounces: 1 (default I think)
Secondary Bounce: 1 (default again I think)
Primary GI Engine is Irradiance Map
Secondary GI engine is Quasi-Monte Carlo (does GI with less noise faster, but also has it's shortcomings I guess).
For the QMC settings, Subdivision is set to 8, and Secondary Bounces are set to 3, however, if I remember correctly QMC doesn't do much after one bounce, so therefore, I guess Irradiance should be set higher if that's the desired effect.
As for the DOF test, not sure what happened. I used the DOF settings in Max for the camera, and maybe it's a Max/Vray issue.
I did another DOF test, and it sorta didn't render quite right.
Maybe it was the camera settings (was trying some special Camera settings in the Vray settings),
