V Speech - Short

01 May 2007Hey guys, this is my current piece of work. I chose the "V Speech" from V for Vendetta because I thought it would be very challenging with all the V words.
Currently, I havent animated the face entirely nor have I animated the hands. The lighting in the picture is what the final lighting will look like, I just didnt render it in the test because it would take forever.
I'm pretty happy with where it is going, but please pick it apart and let me know what you think!

03 May 2007Couple of crits I have for ya. I know your focus is on the speech and lip sync but there are some body issues that are standing out quite a bit, and are taking away from the acting.
Your very first pose is waaay off balance, even though his locomotion is pushing him forward he shouldn't be leaning so far left as he would be falling over. It might be just the camera angle but even so you should play to the camera because it just looks odd with him crooked like that.
Coming out of the very first step towards cam his right foot is sliding a little.
At the end his hand is sticking through the knife.
Beyond that, the motion throughout is very linear and floaty. Work those curves and try to get more interesting motion, more easing in and out of the poses. Regardless of the emotion he is acting at that moment, the linear movement takes away from the overall performance. If you can break it up a bit it will make it way more awesome.
Nice work though man, did you make that rig yourself? -

The hand going through the blade wasn't an issue for me because theyll be a camera cut there anyway
I dont see the sliding foot

04 May 2007It's right in the beginning, when he takes his first step towards the camera. If you notice his back foot is moving forward before there is any weight on his front foot.

11 May 2007Hey man i really like what you have going here most of the motion is really nice a fluid. but every once and a while he will move an arm or leg and nothing else moves. movements like that will effect more of the body. also i think his shoulder should be moving a bit.
good work tho keep it up! -

Yea, I agree with you. And I plan to work on it much more, in fact starting later today hopefully.
After showing it to several people and getting their input on what is working and what isnt working, I am seeing the problems. Things such as weight, shoulders not moving much, the torso not compressing enough, and various other things will need to be improved upon.
I do plan on finishing the entire speech, but as of now all I have is this first part.
I'll get working on it again today and post my progress sometime in the near future. If you see something I didn't, let me know.
