it's going to be all 3D/Flash with very short animations inbetween button clicks.
What you're seeing there is the intro animation, and it stops when my name "andrew cohen" comes onto the screen.
The animation when you click on gallery starts when Andrew Cohen flys away.

That's pretty neat. I would maybe make it even faster though. I personally hate animated flash portfolio sites, but I think this would work as long as it's very quick, short transitions like this.
-
yeah so many people have been warning me, i'm trying to keep them all below 2-3 seconds. Also i'm going to have a little checkbox in the corner to "skip all" transitions

here's a little test, low rez and smaller than it will be
Only the gallery button works, and when you get to the end, there is an invis button on the top right to go back

looking nice man the Idea is solid be carfull with your type tho took me till the third go to read your name on the youtube one anyway the angle of it is a bit extreme.
also keeping it short is very key
and remember you want people to see your 3d work not your ability to make a website (assuming thats true) so your site should be simple and to the point I had that trouble with my first few sites now mine is as simple as it gets.
but I do like what you have looks nice I will like to see what you end up with!

Heh, here's a little still image of what my "resume room" looks like. The cart comes into the room and the "torah" unscrolls into that position, then the camera fixes itself on it and lowers it's FOV.
-
finished the skeleton of the website
here it is with no content yet
when you get to the end of the animations, there is an invisible button on the top right corner to go backwards

hey man i like what you got going here
few crits animations are still a little long i think the only one that bothered me was when the "car" on the track stretched up to grab the "page" if that makes sense other wise its all nice a fast.
also and im sure this is already in your plans but back buttons cause while i was looking through i had to keep reloading the page to check out the next part.
otherwize keep it up i like your overall direction with this project very nice.
edit. missed that you put that back button in... nice..

Hey man,
That's actually pretty neat! For the most part I despise flash websites, but your execution is actually pretty fun!
I agree about the back button bit....without that, it's impossible to navigate properly.
My OOOOONNNLY concern, is to maybe speed up the transitions a little bit. Say, cut them down to 2/3 or 1/2 or something. At first glance it's fun to watch the animations, but as I was trying to browse through your whole site they began to get a bit tedius. I can imagine that a potential employer with little patience would maybe get slightly annoyed.
-
yeah maybe i should speed them up, but that's why i put the "skip transition" check box on the bottom...
whaaabamb - the car stetch might look a little awkward beacause there are 2 stretches, the stretch of the car and the stretch of the two suction cups. There are a few frames i can cut out to make it quicker, maybe then it will be less awkward.
thanks for the comments!

Little update to the gallery. I figured out how to encorperate XML into flash so i can just keep adding work to it without actually openeing the FLA file. Also i'm kind of stumped on my bio page, anyone have any cool ideas?
Still no back button graphics... but they are there in the top right corner

Dude!
That was friggin cool! nice way to implement 3d into webdesign.
Always thought about doing it, and always seen people make half hearted attempts at it, glad to see you've stuck it out and gone the whole nine yards.
Looking back I cant see you mentioning changing lighting or texturing?
They are the only things I can see that bring it down a notch. The lighting makes it look dirty, and it needs texture. Im not talking bout like full metal + rust or rock and stuff like that, just procedural materials to represent the different objects, like reflection e.t.c
It looks great how it is, but if it was cleaner, it would be the tits man.
-
i was thinking about textures and played with it for a long time in the early stages of development. After hours of playing around i rendered out just a plain old ambient occlusion pass and i loved it. So right now it's just a high sample, high spread AO pass hehe.
