Here is a model I have been working on. Still trying to iron everything out and the proportions are a little whack. Just thought I'd post something since I've been so busy with school and everything.
Modeled in Maya.

Siiiick.
Model looks good from this angle except for the wheel well in the back being too tight around the wheel, assuming that's what you meant about proportions. Hopefully it's not like that in your reference or somebody has some seriously strange wheels.
How far along is it?

Yeah the whole car is kind of tilted and needs to be rotated at the end so the back wheel fits in. It was based on drawings, not exact plans, so things are kind of messy.

wow, nice work! I never modeled a car, so it looks way better than anything i've made!
looks like there's some weird GI issues around some of the panel lines. or maybe that's compression artifacts.

Pretty nice work from what I can see for not having good plans. I've had to make things just going off of reference pics rather than blueprints. I have to agree with Hype on this one. I'm not too familiar with mental ray myself. I would like to suggest using some hdri for reflections and lighting. Keep up the with the good work.

Thanks for the comments!
Yeah the render is just a quick test render. I didn't bump up the settings for it yet. Also the lighting isn't done. I need to set up more of an environment with the lights so the car has more to reflect.

If you use HDRI you won't need an environment, it's provided by the image. But, cars rendered with hdri reflecting random things while they sit in an empty environment look strange to me. You can find an HDR image without too many specific reflections though, just enough to make it look really nice but not distracting.
Anywho, it looks really nice. If you can fix that back wheel thing it'll be a nice piece for the collection.

Update from a couple days ago... After this test render I tried to fix a bunch of things in the back and ended up destroying it in the process...lol.

Lighting will be completely redone... but... update.

Updates... Working on rendering again. More WIP renders... These are just 1 pass renders straight from Maya. I am working on doing separate passes for reflections, etc.

one material flaw i see right off the bat is the reflections on the car in concern to the mirro on the door. the reflection on the car of it looks too perfect and there's no falloff of blurring as it gets farther away. i'd say turn down the reflection and make a falloff
otherwise it looks pretty good. try something unique! regular car renders are so overdone in this industry!

is that really?
man you just got +1 on my friend rating system. You live in belgium, and you drive a mini!how much better can it get... wait, do you use max, or maya?
-

Yep it's mine. In a while we will use it in a short directed by a friend: a car chase, the mini tracked by a hummer. Just great!
I am not really into 3D, sorry, but I do love the 3D creations from the guys (grls). I'm more involved in filmmaking (adobe stuff).
So, not max, not maya, just mini...

LOL you guys are funny.
And to the artist formally known as Ridestowe, I hope to fix that reflection when I do a separate reflections pass.

wow, all you changed was the rendering, karna? cuz those latest pics look awesome! the previous ones, in the bright reflections on the sides, there's some strange curves and contours that make it almost look like some of the mesh isn't as clean as it could be, but there's none of that in these last pics! nice work!!
and what did "ridestowe" mean anyway, ben?

Thanks Hype! Yes all I changed was the rendering pretty much. A few things here and there.
And I'm guessing Ridestowe... that he snowboards in Stowe, Vermont.

oh man how'd you know! no one ever gets the reference but you nailed it on the head! i've had ridestowe since i was in 6th grade and i thought it was time to get something a little more professional.
