Just thought I'd show you some of my latest work. This is for a project at uni. I've been following a tutorial to make him (it?) and this is my first venture into 3D Max from maya (and indeed my first proper organic model.) He's nowhere near finished, he still needs alot of work, and thats just on the model. Its mostly just a matter of refining muscle groups and adding details now. I'm slightly daunted by the prospect of unwrapping him, it will be very tricky methinks. Hope you like him

! He is pretty nasty lookin isn't he? And if anyone can think of a name for him I'll use it! I've added some teeth and a tongue etc, and general tweaks etc. I'm very pleased with him actually, I think I'm almost ready to tackle my reason for start CG in the first place: Dinosuars!! I'm going to try to unwrap him today, then its time for textures. Here's a quick render. -

Will J 215 posts17 Jan 2008Well he has to be done for next wednesday, but I'm technically only required to model him. However I am hell bent on getting first on the project, so I at least want to give him a really good texture (which means a crash course in UWV unwrap x_x.) I really do want to at least pose him, but I doubt I'll have time to animate him. Maybe in my spare time when the projet is over.

17 Jan 2008Hey mate...looks pretty good! Only thing that really sticks out to me is the squareness of the fingers....might try rounding them out a bit?

Claymation 600 posts18 Jan 2008I like it! I think the arms might be a bit scrawny for how thick his chest is, as well as the ankles. Would he walk upright? On all fours? Or kind of a mix of both? Maybe make his tail longer to balance out his torso more.

Will J 215 posts18 Jan 2008Well I've unwrapped him now and I'm in the process of painting a texture. I think in terms of movement he'd move quite alot like Gollum, going between 2 an 4 legses, but he'd run with his arms tucked up like a dinosaur I suppose.

Claymation 600 posts22 Jan 2008Looks pretty good. It's hard to crit because it's kind of a dark render though.

22 Jan 2008Yea it would be nice to give him some rim lighting/spec-pass....it's really dark at the moment...
