I'm working on this little animation to practice my body mechanics and lighting. I've got it rendering in Mental Ray with GI and FG but I'm still getting artifacts on the corner of the ceiling. (Black splotches) Anyone know how to get rid of them? I've already got the photons and FG accuracy pretty high and it doesn't seem to be changing it.
Any thoughts?

Hmm...a couple of guesses...just looks like your average low-sampling issue...can you post your FG settings?

Sure thing.
http://www.jaygrenier.com/animation/settings.jpgI've got a single directional light emitting 50k photons.
Appreciate the help as always.

I spent some time with my FG settings and nothing changed anything, so I started playing with the GI and raising the photons, seems that was the case. I'm getting close to 1,000,000 to really get all of the noise out of there. Sucko!

Here's some animation! It's very even until I nail down the weight, then I'll go in and break it up a bit and add some more nuance.
Any notes on the weight of the landing and the settle at the end would be a huge help. I'm practicing trying to give weight to a light character, it's tricky. =)

Cool!

...wouldn't mind seeing a little more weight to the spine on the landing though!

I'd say more anticipation/follow through with the top of the spine/head.
As far as the lighting goes, have you tried using just an ambient occlusion pass, instead of all that fancy GI and FG stuff? Seems overkill for something like this.

@ Rich - Too much fun imo.

@ Mahmoud - Thats the AnimationMentor Rig "Stewie" for Maya. I work in animation so I sure hope I'm serious about it.

@ Clay - I most likely won't even render this out, I'm just practicing with Mental Ray, and thanks for the notes. =)

I think for the type of animation I'm going for I got it about as far as I can. Time to move on, thanks for the notes everyone. =)

Ah yea the bit of spine compression you added in there really helps it! Nice!

Cool. Something seems weird to me about the arms, like the amount his arms are being raised and how straight they go over the shoulders... It feels like the arms should be more bent and/or not rotate so straight up over the head. Or maybe it is just the way the body is bent at the top of the jump...it seems like if his body is bent forward/curved that his shoulders should also be rotated forward slightly instead of being straight up.
